US 1884

Rebel29

Alpha
Hello, I have a gun from my grandpa and would like to gain some knowledge about it. It is a US 1884, the serial number is 5 digits. It has a cartouche making of "LWP 1886", I assume this must be the year of manufacture?
I would appreciate any information you might be able to share.
Thank you!!

Trapdoor info:

If you are going to shoot it:

And there are reprints of the army manual from the period that are really nice to have. It goes part by part, describing each one’s function. Also includes the Colt and S&W revolvers.

I wouldn't shoot it since you don't know its overall condition.

Hang it on the wall, and get a replica if you want to shoot a design from that time period.

If the bore is usable, you can fire it. I have several. However, you should use black powder and soft, but not pure, lead. These rifles are accurate as much s the Sharps, and other, originals or replicas. Just be aware that this will kick. 70 grains of BP.
