I agree. I don't condone DV one bit, I have never struck my trophy wife in 45+ years and she has never struck me although I've had to bite my lip and walk away a time or two as has she. Bob beating the hell outta Helen is DV, Bob pushing Helen when he wants to leave to avoid a physical confrontation and she is blocking the door is not. But let the cops see him push her and he is going to jail. One thing I very against is life long lost of right for misdemeanor domestic violence charges. Two brothers, a dad and his son, etc get into an altercation and one or both can be charged with DV. If a man or woman pushes, throws a glass of water on, or slaps each other, that's a life long ban.... The bar is set way to low, and no simple assault that's a misdemeanor should result I'm losing your rights for life. If the assault was extremely violent and that bad, it should be charged as a felony in the first place.
My first wife used to call the cops when we were arguing. She also used to hit me, knowing I wouldn't hit her back. The law around here is if someone calls 911 for domestic, someone has to go to jail for 12 hours. At least twice the cops gave us the choice of which one of us it was going to be. So at least twice, even though I never laid a hand on her, I went to jail for 12 hours. Because I am clearly a dumbass and have a soft spot for the women I live with and volunteered to go. There was never a court case or a conviction, but it still shows up on a FBI intensive BGC, such as the one needed to get a UPIN and no doubt for a suppressor or a SBR.I agree. Oh I been through it too. Years ago now, mine use to put her hands on me too on a few occasions. Being a man and it not really hurting me at all, it wasn't a big deal to me. On one occasion after bring hit a few times, I had to grab here arms to restrain her and then I immediately let go. Neighbors heard the commotion, and called the cops. The cops show up, and my foolish wife ADMITS that she hit me, but demands I be arrested because I grabbed her arms??? The though never once crossed her mind that she'd be arrested too! In Virginia at least, they'll arrest both parties for a domestic call, and then will let the courts sort everything out! The officers stated that's standard protocol. My first wife used to call the cops when we were arguing. She also used to hit me, knowing I wouldn't hit her back. I don’t even bother. I go fill out the 4473 before my gun ever gets to the shop. By the time I go in to pick it up my 3 days has passed.Oh I been through it too. We both had to get lawyers and we got the charges dropped. I learned my lesson. If not for us having multiple children together, we wouldn't have made past that era because I would have left. From then on out I let her know if she or ANY woman so much as touches me I'm getting out my phone to record and protect my self, leaving, and immediately dailing 911 to report the assault. IMHO women are the biggest perpetrators of DV, but men never report it. I've had male coworkers come in with bruises and one even with a black eye, and others including myself at the time made jokes and teased them about it. If the sexes were reversed, everyone (other women included) would take it seriously.
I was that close to having all my rights stripped away for life. I ALWAYS get delayed for hours when doing a background check to buy a new firearm. I drove miles to pick up a firearm 4 hours before the shop closed, and I had to drive over an hours back home because I was still delayed when the shop closed. Pissed me off because I had to make multiple trips. This has happened a few times.
