US cannot disarm some people convicted of some crimes.

I went to high school with a kid (not a friend...someone I knew though), who at 18 years got drunk, high, got in a fight and was convicted of a felony (battery? drugs? don't remember, but take your pick). 30 years later he's about 50, has a family, job, house, kids....doing quite well and is properly adjusted. He can never take his children deer hunting, though. doesn't seem right. I know there are always exceptions to rules...and 2 sides to every story. So regarding the fraud above...i'd need more information to have an opinion one way or the other...other than I tend to lean toward freedom in most situations rather than government.

The whole convicted of a misdemeanor that is punishable by more than a year thing is a bunch of BS. If you ain't a felon, you ain't a felon. And by the letter of the law, other than certain violent felonies, as long as whatever sentence you served ended 5 or more years ago you are not a prohibited person even if you are a felon.

Here's something. I work with a guy who when he was 18 did some dumb :poop: that wasn't violent or anything, but rather than get a lawyer he just took the felony. 40 years later he had that felony expunged from his record. It cost him over $1000. 3 years later he is still denied on an NICS to buy a gun. I guarantee you all those convicts who petitioned to get their voting rights back ( with the help of the democratic party) have no such issues voting.

Frankly I think a :poop: bag with the right to vote is more dangerous than a:poop: bag with the right to buy a gun. He's gonna get a gun if he wants one either way.

Some folks have an issue with my view but I feel if someone committed a crime if that crime was not a crime of violence against a person or Human (ok maybe dogs too) once they are released and off paper and provide restitution for any damages then they should have all rights restored.

If they commit a crime that harmed a person (assault with a weapon, rape murder attempted murder and is include serious criminal gang enterprise membership with serious drugs like meth fentanyl etc as serious enough) then perhaps they are too violent to be out of prison!!!

If one fits the first example of non violent and does something stupid again repeat however with progressive discipline kind of way keep him longer the second time.

3rd repeat he’s hit as he/she obviously ain’t getting the message so they shouldn’t get out!

My opinion of this is , If a person is convicted of a crime , does his FULL sentence , and is released , he should then have FULL rights restored.

If they aren't safe to own firearms , then they shouldn't be out in general population.

When my youngest brother was a teen, him and 2 others went on Fort Drum Army base which at that time was closed down in caretaker status and broke into the vehicle maintenance yard and took 2 ATV's (Honda 3 wheelers) and a Jeep and hot rodded them in the woods that surround Fort Drum. They left them in the woods when they were done. One of the numbskulls went back and took one of the ATV's and tried to sell it to the local Honda Shop. Long story short, when the cops arrested him he ratted them all out and they all got charged with felonys. Because of youthful offender status and first time offense he didn't have to do jail time but still had the felony conviction on his record. He wanted an AR-15 but couldn't own it because of the felony conviction. He queried ATF and because it was a nonviolent offense, was 40 years ago and no felony's since then they told him it would not be a problem. He went to the local gun shop and purchased it, no problem...

I'd be okay with no prohibition for non violent crimes, and a 5 or so year waiting period after reintroduction back into society where a violent ex-felon can partition the courts for their rights back were a judge must reinstate rights unless there has been evidence to why the person is still violent aka has had misdemeanor assault conviction or other violent behavior. That seems like something that's reasonable. Society isn't going to support blanketed gun rights restoration for violent thugs who are released back into society, and keeping everyone locked up indefinitely isn't realistic.

One thing I very against is life long lost of right for misdemeanor domestic violence charges. Two brothers, a dad and his son, etc get into an altercation and one or both can be charged with DV. If a man or woman pushes, throws a glass of water on, or slaps each other, that's a life long ban.... The bar is set way to low, and no simple assault that's a misdemeanor should result I'm losing your rights for life. If the assault was extremely violent and that bad, it should be charged as a felony in the first place.

Just more fodder for the anti 2A crowd to twist against owning a gun just like claiming they’re now letting people with mental health problems own a firearm. Never mind what the change actually is, they just twist it to its darkest component and hang everything on a skewed argument. Let’s not forget that feelings matter more than laws and facts.

I agree. I don't condone DV one bit, I have never struck my trophy wife in 45+ years and she has never struck me although I've had to bite my lip and walk away a time or two as has she. Bob beating the hell outta Helen is DV, Bob pushing Helen when he wants to leave to avoid a physical confrontation and she is blocking the door is not. But let the cops see him push her and he is going to jail.

My first wife used to call the cops when we were arguing. She also used to hit me, knowing I wouldn't hit her back. The law around here is if someone calls 911 for domestic, someone has to go to jail for 12 hours. At least twice the cops gave us the choice of which one of us it was going to be. So at least twice, even though I never laid a hand on her, I went to jail for 12 hours. Because I am clearly a dumbass and have a soft spot for the women I live with and volunteered to go. There was never a court case or a conviction, but it still shows up on a FBI intensive BGC, such as the one needed to get a UPIN and no doubt for a suppressor or a SBR.

Oh I been through it too. Years ago now, mine use to put her hands on me too on a few occasions. Being a man and it not really hurting me at all, it wasn't a big deal to me. On one occasion after bring hit a few times, I had to grab here arms to restrain her and then I immediately let go. Neighbors heard the commotion, and called the cops. The cops show up, and my foolish wife ADMITS that she hit me, but demands I be arrested because I grabbed her arms??? The though never once crossed her mind that she'd be arrested too! In Virginia at least, they'll arrest both parties for a domestic call, and then will let the courts sort everything out! The officers stated that's standard protocol.

We both had to get lawyers and we got the charges dropped. I learned my lesson. If not for us having multiple children together, we wouldn't have made past that era because I would have left. From then on out I let her know if she or ANY woman so much as touches me I'm getting out my phone to record and protect my self, leaving, and immediately dailing 911 to report the assault. IMHO women are the biggest perpetrators of DV, but men never report it. I've had male coworkers come in with bruises and one even with a black eye, and others including myself at the time made jokes and teased them about it. If the sexes were reversed, everyone (other women included) would take it seriously.

I was that close to having all my rights stripped away for life. I ALWAYS get delayed for hours when doing a background check to buy a new firearm. I drove miles to pick up a firearm 4 hours before the shop closed, and I had to drive over an hours back home because I was still delayed when the shop closed. Pissed me off because I had to make multiple trips. This has happened a few times.

I don’t even bother. I go fill out the 4473 before my gun ever gets to the shop. By the time I go in to pick it up my 3 days has passed.
