Vinyl Gun Wrap experience/opinions??

I don't always buy $2500 custom rifles, but when I do, I make sure to lock them in a room with a goth teenager, marijuana and several colors of spray paint......

Cars already have a coat of paint to protect the metal underneath. And car wrap has taken off because it is much cheaper to wrap it then properly repaint it a different color, or with graphics, for more cheaper. Not to mention it is also reversible, but not without risk, wrap over the paint can damage the pain, especially if moisture gets trapped between the wrap and paint. Which sounds like the warning about rust on carbon steel pistols.
Recreational firearms, or collections, I can see, but along the less is more philosophy, if a pattern is so complex that its better to wrap instead of stencil on with cerakote, you've probably have gone to far already.....
For recreational firearm, Camo is tacti-cool, I've done it and currently doing it (although taking my time on the project) but the majority of my firearm collection is solid colors and appropriate color, black, Parkerizing, Blued or earthen tones, with the exception of one stenciled on Shark's Mouth...
I'd agree a carry pistol should be plain, at the very least the functionality of not drawing attention to it or distracting you with questions from lookey lou's ...

I say try it out. Vinyl is not permanent and it isn’t expensive. If it gets damaged or you don’t like it, it’s easy to replace. Ive wrapped plenty of cars and the biggest problem with cars is things like racing stripes or numbers where they only cover part of the car and you get a shift in color of the paint from the sun. If I was going to do it I would degrease the gun and then use something like Eezox or Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner and Lube (not the case cleaner) to give the slide a coat of rust protection. I suspect the risks are far less most would have you believe.
That being said, Cerakote is the way to go.

Thanks for all the info. One of the gunsmiths at the range-Modern Sportsman -Burnsville, Mn. said he has "skinned" a few guns and is talking to the other gunsmith who has also decorated several guns. Overall vote was for the Sprinkles over Roses so I ordered a Sprinkles sheet for $40-. Have to check with the guys tomorrow, one of the range officials lost a leg in Afganistan and rides a huge 3 wheel motorcycle said he was accused of pulling or showing his gun and thankfully the officer believed him but false accusations happen thus the Sprinkles gun.

Good Point, I have 2 boys, 50 & 55. My youngest has lots of medical issues and we have always lived together. My older is a 30 yr. police Captain , his wife is a 25 yr. officer, neither approve of me having a gun and sadly we aren't close. I did, a month ago get my 1st great grandchild, will be SUPER careful. Getting gun to stay out of jail to see him grow up. Thanks.

I agree with everyone cerakote is the dream but cost & being without my gun for weeks isn't an option. Turning 78, it's only out at the range. Living check to check a 2nd gun is the dream but no can do. Would LOVE to get the Hellcat Pro in the Davidson blue and silver. Thanks All.

HUH, my blue single six has lived in a hunter leather holster for 45+ years and no visible effect. Then it gets a fair amount of use and always gets wiped down with 3 in 1 oil after use.
Sorry guys those hello kitty guns they just strike my fancy. I would never carry one out of fear someone would throw a net over me for laughing to myself all day.
Let us know how it turns out. I was a big city cop, retired 30 years ago and would never have told my father to get rid of his firearms. Obviously has no faith in you. Keep your pistol and fooey on him, and his wife!

Gunsmith at Range said he will need my gun about 3 weeks to "Sprinkle" it. Can't stay at home that long-gunless-need grocery's RX's appointments, etc. Looking at $$ of 2nd back-up gun am unsure about a used gun. I'd love to hear your thoughts on buying used from a good gun store. Would love to get another Hellccat Pro in Davidson blue and only have to decorate the silver slide. Have to look into a small loan as they run around $600. Let me know thoughts on a used one. You all rock and are a blessing. Thanks.
Nothing wrong with buying a used gun if it looks like it hasn't been over used.
