Viridian 5CL ECR Question

Critter

Alpha
I have a new Hellcat and have installed a Viridian 5CL Green which I am liking a lot. Next step is the holster. As part of that I am trying to decide if I want to get the ECR Instant-on option. I understand the arguments for and against, that's not the question. What I can't seem to find is any information as to whether or not you can turn off the ECR if you want to. IOW, if I have an ECR holster, can I turn off the ECR on the 5CL light/laser or is it always ECR? The manual for the 5CL isn't at all detailed about ECR. Viridian hasn't yet responded to my emailed question, been a few days, and I thought maybe someone here might know.

TIA

I have an R5 laser on my XD-s, with ECR. There is a master-arm button on the R5 where I can turn the whole thing "off", and it won't activate on draw. If the laser is on when I holster, it will turn off in the holster (when the magnet is close), and it will turn on again when I draw (when the magnet moves away). If it is off when I holster, it will stay off until I turn it on again using the button.

The C5L is a little different as you have choices for laser, light, or both - but I think that's a master preset just like the master power setting.

Me? I love the instant-on. Under duress, it's one less thing to think about, and you can simply use your training and practice, and react.

How do you like the C5L? How's the fit, nice and stable? I have an O-light Baldr Mini on my Hellcat and I like it enough, but it's bulky. I had to make my own kydex holster shell and it works well, but re-holstering is a bear because the O-light is so squared off. And, the green laser isn't anywhere near as bright as my Viridian. On the upside, I loveloveLOVE the magnetic recharge cable on the O-light, compared to annual battery swaps.

So far so good. Compact, fits the Hellcat perfectly, no other laser/light seems to, and works just fine at this point. Only about 50-odd 124 gr rounds through the gun with the 5CL on it.

Yep, the whole battery thing is a bit of a PITA, but I am used to it on my previous carry gun. NBD and the CR2s are less costly than the CR123. While 100 lumens isn't as bright as some, it's perfectly adequate for purpose, short range defensive use. And, if I decide to do the strobe, that's 130 lumens, which is still plenty to startle an aggressor. I am old enough to remember getting excited when the first Surefire 6P came out at and that was 65 lumens. Times have changed, expectations have risen, but practically speaking, it is more than adequate. I have a separate 300 lumen pocket flashlight for anything I need a real flashlight for.
