Couple questions, how do you like the pistol, a short review? I am a fan of Vortex but are you happy with your set up, except maybe the sights as you said in your previous post, wanting co-witness sights? I have been close, several times on “pulling the trigger” on one of these, or the SF ones. I shoot my X5 but I really like Walther. Thanks.
I really wanted the SF, but not for double the cost. I really like the polymer Q5 though. It feels great in my hands and I’ve never shot a more accurate pistol. Really the only thing I can complain about is that the plates for the optic just replace the plate with the rear sight on it so you can’t have a red dot AND a rear iron sight. Mine came with 3 extra plates for different brands of red dots. I don’t believe they include the plates anymore. It comes with three different back straps, that are quickly changed out via a pin. I found I like the medium best. After some range time with 115gr, 124gr and 147gr. I found I like 124gr. best. It comes with three 15rd. magazines, but I went to GMW and bought three 17rd. Magazines for it. It’s an M2 so mags and accessories for the PPQ M2 are the same for the Q. The one other issue that gave me pause is the guide rod, which is polymer. They make SS and titanium guide rods for it and people experiment with different springs for purposes of recoil but I am pretty happy with it as it is and I haven’t found anyone who has had any issues with the plastic guide rod so for now it will stay stock. Some people have done Apex trigger mods on these too and they report improvement but I have to say the stock trigger set up on the Q far exceeds any striker fired pistols I have or have shot. Including SAs and Shields that have Apex and other trigger upgrades on them.

This is a target with the last two (15rd.) magazines I shot when zero’ing the Venom. You can see the last magazine it was zero’d and pretty much was just making the hole in the bullseye larger with each shot. This was offhand at 25 yards.

As for the Venom, I like it. Admittedly I don’t have experience with other mini red dots on pistols, but this one has stayed zero’d through hundreds of rounds so far. I think if I was to carry this gun I would invest in something a little more proven, like a DPP and definitely something with “Shake awake” but for the range I see no reason to spend the extra $300 plus when the Vortex works just fine.

Great response, thanks. I have read excellent remarks on the trigger. I’m with you on price vs the SF. Good shooting btw. Like I said I am a fan of Vortex, I would not hesitate running that rds. I don’t like the fact that removing the plate takes away the rear sight, as with my setup (Glock MOS) I have co-witness sights as backup sights for if something happened with my RMR. Definitely not a deal breaker. Again thanks for the review.
