Weak hand shooting. The skill, technique and practice

Lots of folks do not practice weak hand shooting skills and technique .

What made me think of this, is a picture of a British Soldier training in an exercise from an article I was reading.

Body fully exposed in a breach hole.

He would benefit tremendously from some weak hand practice.

I know I practice it, but not enough. Mediocre is probably my skillset. I can do it, but not well enough.

Time to practice some more once eyes are up and running.

Here are some tips;

i shoot rifles lefty as well.
So your week hand is shooting around an entry to your left and shooting left.
A left and a left so to speak.
That would be our week hand around a corner / slicing the pie
If i keep going left eventually i’ll make a right!
Since i’m left eye dominant i actually shoot pretty well left handed. Working the slide and mag release still needs some work though. I also work on shooting rifles right handed. People must think there’s some wacko in the port not knowing if he’s left or right handed.

I am same way., but… your “weak” is swinging left as you go thru a door to your left.

Slicing the pie at 9oclock to 6oclock is making you step thru the doorway pivoting with your right foot.
Switching to the right shoulder would be weak hand and a better slice of the pie

I was pretty hesitant about picking up a shotgun for quite a while still a little leery about running any magnum loads through it.

I trained with Bill Rapier a couple years ago, and I always liked his perspective on "weak hand" shooting. He said,

"There is no 'weak hand' - there is your strong hand, and your other strong hand. As soon as you start to think of one of your hands as 'weak,' you are pyschologically creating a self-fulfilling prophecy."

I'm not totally ambidextrous but close. I can't write or play guitar left handed, everything else is about equal. I box southpaw and I'm more comfortable kicking or batting left. I do shoot handguns better from the right side even though I am left eye dominant. Shotguns though I can go either way. Beaded shotguns I shoot better from the left side for obvious reasons. Most of my shotguns have optics on them though so it's a moot point. I could have two broke shoulders and I would still figure out a way to shoot them.

How about one of those that have just the hand grip on it no stock

Ever give one of those or try
Yeah, my Mossberg 500 started it's life as a "Cruiser" model back in the early 90s. I went through several configurations over the years. It stayed stock for a long time. That is pistol grip, pineapple plastic forend.
Then I put a Magpul forend on it and a vertical grip.

Then a light.

Then I realized that only having a pistol grip slows you down and makes you much less accurate so I put a telescoping AR stock on it.

Then I ditched the light and the vertical grip.

Then I ditched the Phoenix telescoping AR style stock and the cheap sling and put a Magpul SGA stock and a padded Vickers.

Then I took this neglected 500A that had been rusting away in an old guy's closet, covered in vaseline.

Then I blued it and took the old furniture I pulled off the 500 and turned this

Into this

Love the pics, nice progression on the 500 and the rebirth on the older 500A. Great work on them both.

My old Mossberg 500 got replaced with a Remington tactical. I have regrets getting rid of that old Mossberg Remington was nice, but had feelings for that Mossberg.
