Well, I know a few of you on the forum are doing some projects this week end with the Memorial Day holiday offering a time to “relax”.😏🤔

I’m deep into a fixer upper on my patio. The mortar between the deck stone of the pool has eroded away with years of ice storms and freeze spells. Pool/patio is 16 yrs old. The contracter in the beginning for the patio put mortar up against the pool stones as opposed to the proper flexible joint. Well, all the rock pavers lining the pool have come loose and popped off when you step on them.

Sooo… time to remortar in the rocks, and put the pool flex coping between the deck and the pool edge like it should have been done 16 yrs ago
Labor intensive to dig/break out the old mortar but it will be nice when its finished.

I know ol @Bassbob is under a truck this week end … 😬

Be sure and use a latex bonding agent beforehand, I alway brush or spray apply it to the surfaces and a bit in the mix with any re-motar work, really adds to the bond better than just using water to damp the surface. Used S type for base and N type for house bricks, when I’ve done patching it holds up better than the old motor joints.

Nice pool you have there!
Yeah, tearing apart the top half of my motor to change out the knock sensors. Next project will be the oil pan gasket. Have to lift the motor up to get to it. That will be another weekend. Then change the filters and fluid in the transmission. Almost 200,000 miles, so I might as well do it now. And I still have to sand, stain and polyurethane the bifold doors to our walk-in closet in the master bath. So many things, so little time......

Looks like a lot of work.

About an hour ago I worked myself out of a job. At least until my parts come. I buy auto parts from Rock Auto so it takes a couple days to get them shipped to me. I'll tell you why I do that. The steering knuckle/spindle I broke, it's $215 at Rock Auto. It's $531 at Auto junk. And it's the exact same part.
Anyway, I got the right side done other than the hub assembly. So Tuesday I should get a pair of hub assemblies, a steering knuckle and a lower ball joint I bought just in case since it was $14. The exact same ball joint is $47 at Auto Junk. I did however manage to not screw up the 1 year old lower ball joint on the right side when I removed the spindle this morning. I also looked up all the torque specs and used them. In the old days of steel suspension parts the proper spec was tight AF. Tight AF doesn't work as well on cast aluminum. The torque spec for the upper ball joint was 55 lbs. My ratchet arm likely had it up to about 250 when it broke. I'm a dumbass. And it cost me $215 to be reminded of that. Once again.
So I'll spend the rest of the weekend digging holes, setting posts and piers. But right now I am headed out to the shop to do some drunken knife maintenance. And maybe another reminder.;):ROFLMAO:

Life goes on holiday weekend or no. Especially being retired, if the grandkids are not being seen its just another weekend, hell weekend mean nothing lol.

Working one of a half dozen storm panels for the snow globe and carport that were damaged over winter. I figure with my relaxed retired schedule it will take a week or two.

Took Maggie for a walk at sunrise, cut and watered grass, went to Lowes and purchased slug repellent. I have seen a few around for the first time here in 30 years! Then we drove to Las Cruces NM, an hour away, to take the dog to a pond to walk around and see some ducks. They were not happy to see her! Got back home, vac'ed out suv and finally relaxing. All in all a good day.

i had "planned" on putting a new cable on my rooftop antenna, down to the splitter box. it's been there for years and it's for the 2 kitchens in the house, so no cable tv, just over-the-air channels, for those tv's.

well after seeing that the chances were good, that the connection to the antenna would break, i decided to order up an omni directional antenna, for a later time.

good thing too, my buddy at the mom/bait store was all alone, and swamped with customers, so i stayed there for like 3 hours, being his "armed security guard", until one of the owners decided to show up.

of course by then..??

the rash of customers had subsided.

he's ticked off too.

he wants to retire in November, he'll be 62, and he has "plans" on leaving.

he basically runs the place, they will lose a good man.

Just finished tearing apart and burning a 4x8 motorcycle ramp. gonna build the new one back in the morning. sure glad i ain't building a house. 2x4x8 treated is 4.40 a piece. 50 foot of 14.3 wire is 150 bucks.
Jeez. I bought 250' of 12/2 with ground for $75 two years ago.

Lumber is down a lot from it's high a couple years ago too, but it's still too high. I am going to need a whole bunch of treated 2x10s and depending on what I use for the decking a bunch of 2x6s. I'd like to do cedar but I could buy another house for that kind of money. May do composite. Depends on the prices when I get to that part.
