well just wonderful

Old_Me

SAINT
i have been having "critical error" issues with my desktop pc.

now, it is old, and i made many changes over the years, like new solid state hard drives, higher power supplies, and updated from one OS to another....it will NOT be able to upgrade to Windows 11

i have currently a ThermalTake 750 W power supply....it is a modular supply, so it comes with cabling for either an AMD or Intel CPU..(i have an AMD)

the past few weeks now, the pc has been acting "wonky"

up to and including...shutting down......so the power supply is at the end of it's service life...(it shut down on me last night, while i was typing a posting here in fact)

i do not have the original box, so i don't recall when i installed this Power Supply.

but i just ordered a new one, gonna be here by Thursday, from NewEgg......one of my "go to" pc parts places.

so now, it'll take an hour or 2, to make the switch out, but i gotta set up a spare table, lift this 800 pound pc, and then take the 1200 pound wet/dry vac up from the basement, to suck out the dust bunnies that the canned air can't handle....

probably won't get to this until the weekend, but since the Taylor Swift Super Bowl game will be on, and i won't be watching it......

it WILL BE the Taylor Swift game...won't it..????

i'll be plenty occupied that day.....getting metal cuts all over my fingers...blood on the computer parts, and CURSING that damned Taylor Swift Super Bowl....!!!!!!!!!!

You’ll be able to handle it better and be clear eyed if you nap in between sessions… just saying 😉😁

My Dell laptop will be 10 years old soon plus the fact that Windows won't support Windows 10 after next year means I'll have to make another investment sooner than I'd like to. If it wasn't for the great time I have here on the Forum I'd say the heck with it and do without. After all, I lived for over 50 years before ever even touching one!

I had to bite the bullet when my old laptop began shutting down, the fan kept shutting off causing it to overheat.
I got a new HP laptop from Costco.
Next will be my tower computer, still has Win 7 and can't upgrade.
I'll miss it , because it has a CD burner.
yeah, "my plan" was to get a laptop as well, since i was supposed to take the NRA instructor course....and use that as a back up here at the house.

then came

1) broken toilet

2) broken washing machine

3) the squirrel invasion that never was, but still COST me over $1,000.......

4) so no NRA instructor training.......

but i "might have" good news on that later, in another thread....

I have a 2013 Apple Imac 27"screen. There aren't any new software upgrades available. It still works great for most applications. My wife & I pay most of our bills online and some banks ,etc won't accept payments from this old computer. I really hate to spend another 3-4 thousand on a new Apple computer. Oh well, it's only money. Ha! Ha!

Look into one of the Linux distros. There is a learning curve, but it will run on almost anything. It is also more stable and secure than either Windows or Mac. While it is not 100% immune to malware, it is certainly much more resistant.
i once bought a Linux from or was it called, "Mandrake"?..or Red Hat..??

then i downloaded a Linux onto a thumb drive, but could not open it.??

i gave up.

I switched to Apple products years ago and have had good luck with them. Then again I really don't use the computer very much anymore.
i had always wanted the Mac G-4..??? a big monster of a desktop...

but back then, the price was like, $ 3,500....???

nope, my (then) $500 Compaq was "just as good" with Win 98

soon after i got into tearing it apart, re-working everything except the mother board..

then i bought pc build kits, then after that. i started specing out a build....

went back to a store brand, right now it is an HP tower, and i have reworked this one a few times as well... i cannot recall the date when i bought it, but gotta be at least 10- 15 years old at the very least.

it's a toss up....reloading press (i want another DIllon 550c) or reloading components, or factory ammo, or another revolver like that new Colt blued Python, or another new 1911......???

or another pc....???

being retired sucks.

more on that in another thread, coming sooner or later.

My laptop is getting older and I'm afraid it will die on me some day when I really need it. I don't use it for any over the net banking and that sort of stuff, just mainly email and a couple forums with a very little "Amazon" type buying/surfing.

I'm forever getting upgrade messages from "MSWin" to do the upgrade to Win 11 for free, but I don't want Win 11. I'm perfectly content with the Win 10 that I'm using now. Not that I have anything directly against Win 11, it's just that it seems so different from what I'm familiar with and I just don't want to go through another learning curve. I'm used to the look of my Win 10 and so far I've not seen any way to make Win 11 look and work the same, or even real similar.

Yeh, I'm old school and stubborn!

like me too...i like what i have, Win10...hell i liked Win98, Win7 as well..of course Win ME sucked big time.....

we should have a choice, not be forced to buy something we don't want......EV cars come to mind here..????

when some company or gooberment official in the house that is painted white, in DC, wants to ram some :poop: up our collective asses, we need to push back.

If you're old school, I must be ancient school. Just joking. My daughter and son-in-law are computer gurus. Without them I'd be in deep poop.
