well this just stinks

roofing tech repairman called me this afternoon.

it's going to rain tomorrow (thursday) and he's coming over to check out the leak.

its one thing to explain the situation, but showing him the area inside the house is much better.

Absolutely a PIA however 2x a year fall and spring i go up on the roof and do the ridge vent and exhaust fans and roof vents, with this. sftp_a_s_assets20200330000000031.jpg

1) i wish i could climb a ladder..but i am older

2) i wish i could handle heights....but i get dizzy

3) i wish i didn't have a tall 3 family house....but it's in a neighborhood where this type of house is very common

4) i wish my roofline was lower......as the fall is shorter.....so less pain..???

UPDATE:

roof tech was just here.

we took a walk into my neighbors' yard to look up at the vent pipe..........

we didn't see a vent pipe!!!

we saw the flashing.....

but no pipe

so it was just starting to rain, he got up his ladder, and went closer.

the pipe did not break off, he said it was a clean cut, it is cast iron too. (no jagged edges )

well, i find it difficult to believe that his company did not extend the pipe when they re-roofed the house.

since the roof was done, we had some heavy rains, but maybe, just maybe the run off wasn't that much for any issues..???

thing too is, this contractor has a very good, if not an excellent reputation, which is why i called them.

they worked on a buddy's house, and they do stand behind thier work.

i asked how much to put an "extension pipe" onto the vent, he said, it shows as warranty work.....

he has to get the parts he needs, and with the rain on/off all day today, he will have to come back.

he does still "suspect" the new skylight as well, but for the time being, the vent pipe is going to get taken care of.

The problem with finding water leaks in the house from the roof is, that water could be infiltrated far far from where you spot the leak inside the home. Water could run a long way down and across the underside of the roof before it falls. In most instances it is much better to get inside your attic while it is leaking and raining and finding the source of the leak from the underside.

true, we spoke of that, and i mentioned my days in the garage, trying to find water leaks, water runs a path of least resistance.

there in no attic here.

C'mon Old_Me, the fall from a 3 story ain't gonna hurt ... but that sudden stop at the bottom is gonna be hell!!!

This sounds like a 'stand up' guy, the kind you'd want to deal with!!!!

they been in business now 40 years....family owned, many family members work there.

you do not pay until the job is done and you are satisfied. I know, it took about 2 weeks to get the final invoice.

then i went to the office in person to pay, rather than to trust the mail, with a check that big.

they warranty thier work for 15 years.....product warranties are whatever they are.

uses all good stuff, like GAF shingles, Velux skylights, etc.

they do it all......except...historic specific work, cuz they don't wanna deal with that commission, and i cannot say i blame them, as they can be anal, more than one would want to deal with....
