You're right. In Texas, liquor stores and grocery stores stayed open. Sales boomed. Here in WI alcohol consumption and retail sales boomed during the kung-flu. In fact, I thought alcohol consumption boomed across the country (retail...not bar/restaurant-served).
and if Newsome or the state legislatures get thier way (again) wages across the board will go up to $20 per hour.Hi,
I'm surprised ANY businesses are left in California. It's got nearly the highest taxes, highest state budget deficit, most regulations, highest gas (transportation) prices, highest cost of living, etc, etc. To a lot of folks wine is a luxury that they can no longer afford, especially if it costs more now due to the economics in CA. Sheesh people. Get a brain. Vote blue and go broke.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
My Dad worked for a beer and wine distributor, mainly on the beer end of it. I also had a friend who was involved in a California winery. Both said the wine business was beyond the competitive environment into a lot of backstabbing and cut throat tactics. I suspect there is more here than meets the eye. If Newsome can single out certain food establishments exempt from wage hikes, he can certainly do the reverse to certain wineries. I agree that I think routine consumption of wine is down. The US is traditionally a beer and whisky nation and I hardly if ever hear of ads for wine of the month clubs or whatever.Add in Americans drink less wine, the “ no names” or small regional brands go first.
Even the big brand names are suffering
Been selling adult beverages for 30+ years. Those wineries were and always have been decent quality, but 1 of many in a sea of “same ol quality”…
