What are you doing right now??

I took the day off work today. Woke up at 02:30 in the worst pain I've had in a long time, so I called in then. At this rate my parts are going to wear out before I have the chance to retire. Not much they can do with the arthritis in my spine, but I may be able to get a bionic shoulder. I'm guessing weather and stress are causing the high degree, so my heating pad has become my new best buddy. I only take OTC meds, and I hate it but it takes the edge off. I've gotten to the point where my health is more important than windows and the company's bottom line. I've got lots more living to do... :cool:

may of us "feel your pain", as i am certain so many of us that are your age or OLDER, experience them on a regular basis.

hell, even some youngin's that actually DO work hard, especially if they take after thier parents upbringing, and have aches and pains, but the only difference is, they recover generally faster.

do and take whatever your body can handle, and never go overboard with any sort of pain meds, OTC or prescribed, trust me, less is better.

when i wrenched for a few years, then trucked, that was ALL bull work too, then work around the house, like manually digging up a tree stump or 2, since my boys were way too young to help. which in all my years, in my earlier years, i'd work over time wrenching, but quickly saw that my paycheck after taxes was showing me over time just isn't worth the paper those checks were printed on.

the past few decades, have proven ALL companies can do GREAT with a smaller workforce, cuz all they have to do is saddle up thier current employees with more work and responsibilities....... for the same or very little compensation.

retirement is good, but semi-retirement is (i think) better, that way one can work a few short hours, and walk out at quitting time (pre-determined when you start working again) , or just simply refuse anymore work, especially that bull work..

what can they do....??? fire you...??

hell, you're already getting social security, maybe a pension, maybe your investments.....

let'em fire a semi-retired worker......cuz those damned bosses..??

still gotta show up for work the next day.......you don't
 
I only take meds when it’s unbearable, I have a high pain tolerance. That said, I’ve had to take it more often, so I’m backing off the bull work as much as they allow.
A friend of mine has all but talked me into taking a part time job at Scheels, packing online orders and stocking shelves. Apparently they’re pretty good to work for and I just want something to keep me moving, not kill me 😉.

then even though a great gun for the price, be forewarned, nearly any Rock Island Armory semi-automatic, will have so much (preservative??) oil on it and in it, you'd swear it was soaking in an oil drum.

as for pain meds, i was prescribed Vicodin for a tooth removal, more than once. i used maybe 2 tops...the rest of the pain? i used Tylenol.

my back operations, of course, many meds were prescribed, and i took them sparingly as well.

we have a huge Amazon DC center that just opened up in my state..they already hired the first line workers.....

i'd be considering a part time job there, if and when some open up..

that's all i want for being retired......part time work/hours.
 
Went to base got referral then went to kidney doctor and next appointment is in May 2025. I walked out. Came home found another doctor but is 70 miles away. Her appointments run about 30 days out. Called back the base to send paperwork to them plus lab results and they are not happy with me. They wanted me to go local. Thats just too bad. Hopefully they will send it to them soon.

i don't recall knowing you were going to the VA..

here, a few doctors in the past years that my family went to, left the private practice to go and work at the local VA hospital. in fact, my sister's podiatrist left a few years ago, to the VA.

good doctors too.

from what i do recall, my former (now late) barber was a vet, and he too lost his doctor (forgot the specialty) to the VA.

to me, that says the VA hospitals are acquiring good medical people for the vets. making it difficult to get quick appointments, due to the backlog of vets..???

I don't use the VA for anything. I now have medicare and Tricare for Life since I am retired military. As far as I am concerned the VA can suck eggs.

Years ago my wife who is also a veteran went to the VA for a claim. This was in El Paso TX. The doctor she was scheduled to see came from Iraq and when she found out my wife was an Iraq Veteran she did nothing for her. It took my wife 10 years to get her claim straightened out but they finally did come thru. It was contracted doctors by the VA that finally approved her claim. When I saw that Iraqi doctor I turned to her and said "your screwed" and I was right for 10 years. Thats how our country takes care of our veterans.

Wow. Just, wow. I don't blame you..
 
The VA is painfully slow and some of the doctors leave a lot to be desired. Took the better part of a year to get benefits started had to travel to Houston & San Antonio multiple times. Saw several doctors and shrinks. Was 55 when I first applied and at the time had really bad private insurance. Was still having pretty serious PTSD problems and service connected injuries. Had to have expensive back surgery that the VA payed for. Here again it took months to get VA approval. Even though I had a real hard time getting benefits am very thankful as now I'm in a much better place. Have family members and friends that have similar stories and some are still struggling with the VA. Hopefully the Trump administration will address the VA's problems.
