What is your preference on a 1911.....Stainless or Blue

Quick question, I always thought of 1911’s as the original military sidearm so wouldn’t that mean tactical? Just my thought.
Good point… but I think O_M is using the word ‘tactical’ in the modern sense where it’s almost synonymous with ‘modular’ and has become, imho, the modern gunners status symbol. Tacticool, not tactical.

Back in the day, ‘tactical’ was more synonymous with ‘practical’ meaning no-frills. Perhaps, anyway. “Classic” is kinda/sorta the same as bygone era. Or maybe ‘understated’ could apply.

The status symbol back then was probably a highly polished “forty-five” maybe with scrollwork or one’s name on it, pearl handles or whatev. Status symbols to us today are rails, red dots and other peripherals etc…. 25-30 yrs ago (?) ambi safety and FLGR meant you had arrived in the 1911 world !!!

But back to your point, it’s all just style and words. And a lot of goofy advertising. Like pickup truck ads on TV: yeah, you go bounce your brand new $60k truck through that riverbed full of rocks like the ad does. Lemme know how it goes. Your 10in display, nav system, headrest rear video displays and all that crap oughta love you, Lol !

Far as any of the extra stuff we pay for goes: Heck, I ain’t seen a thing yet that indicates that the presence of any of the tactical ‘stuff’ we drool over today ever actually saved the shooter from going down or turned the tables. maybe somebody else has seen something definitive??

Anywho - Merry Christmas y’all !!!
Looking forward to a better 2022
and great midterm election results !

i dunno...i have seen guns that are "tactile" just by having a picatinny rail, maybe a "hollowed out" hammer?, and a drilled out trigger

as far as a "military" side arm, wouldn't that mean, that the gun would have to have "special features", rather than a "plain-Jane", look..??

and to be honest, i do like the "plain-Jane" look, but every once in a while, something catches our eye's, and all bets are off, regarding, "plain-Jane"....

Moot point. I think you missed mine.

Remember back in the '70s, when everything was "combat" and "combat conversions"? Being a professional journalist/editor/"word guy," I could never understand how taking a defensive handgun and adding a few cool accessories made it a "conversion." How so? It was a defensive handgun. It's still a defensive handgun. You haven't "converted" it into anything else!:LOL:

"Tactical" today is pretty much meaningless, like the "only" before the price in any advertisement. If it means anything, it's "painted black or flat dark earth or camo, and priced 10% higher than the regular thing."

I think it just makes some people feel good to say "tactical," the way Howard Stern likes to say "vagina" on the public airwaves.
