Interesting read on the AK-47

At the risk of sounding un-American, AK's are my favorite semi-automatic rifles. I'm shooting my AK's and SKS more than any others because I can still pick up 7.62x39 ammo at Academy on a regular basis for about $0.30 per round. Until .223 or 5.56 ammo gets back to that price range and availability, the AK's are going to see a lot more range time.

Thanks for posting Anni,
Nice brief history. AK's are very good for what they are/do.
Excellent animated CAD video showing AK's assembly, disassembly and function.
Loved the colors. Now to find the paint? :)

"An east German conscript holds his AK47 in the snow."

F**k that brings back bad memories for me.
It's fun to look at those pictures, not fun to get awaken at 4AM by an alarm, and running outside, in cold winter clutching that stupidly cold mass of metal. Hitting each other with those lumps of metal while we stumble half asleep on corridors and stairs down to the gathering square.
Without any bullets of course, no loaded magazines or bullets were allowed in barracks. Don't want those teens (18 yr) to revolt and actually have bullets, do you?

My memory about those guns are poor sights, almost no precision, full auto was a joke due to recoil. We were told to shoot "short bursts" in auto. Tracer rounds were fun (one every third round, they are expensive), even if we had to march some 3 hours to the range and back, at night. Precision was s**t probably because of decades old ammo that was given to us for training. And banged sights by previous generations of forced recruits.

I've been shooting my AK more in the past year due to ammo costs. I tried adding a red to to it with a UTG side rail, and no matter what combination of cheek riser or stock I used it was just a bad cheek weld, and I reverted back to using irons with it. I've noticed a lot of my friends, like me mostly own ARs, and just have 1-2 AKs, just to have them. They too have been shooting the AKs more, and so many of them never even bother to zero the iron sights. I've been carrying my sight tool in my range bag when I go out to shoot with them, because I just know, someone's probably going to need it.

Yup on sight tool! - AK doesn't leave w/o one being in bag.
Just got this AK muzzle compensator in mail today. Pretty interesting kit/rig. 6 different "tuning washers" to configure compensation. End piece or finial has 4 hexhead set screws to keep it and washers in place once has been tuned in. Has AK notch in compensator, no compression rings. Watched video on it before ordering, looked good. Kept barrel flat. Now to find time to get all together and tune it in?

Here's a you tube video of the R.A.G.E. compensator with 15% off code:
