Yep, that's another negative about the ultra compact 1911s. My SA uses a bushingless barrel and a captive double recoil spring system. Its a major PITA to field strip and put back together. SA makes a little plastic tool to help, but its still troublesome.It was PITA to take down
Over the years I've owned numerous 1911's, all in 45 ACP. Commander length is as small as I would ever go.Exactly. 1911s in .45acp get downright finicky when barrel length goes below 4". I have an older SA Ultra-Compact that I spent a couple of years tinkering with off and on before I finally got it reasonably reliable.
Honestly, I really don't care that much for such a small 1911. It feels awkward in my hand and the recoil pulse is just off. I much prefer a Commander size gun for carry.
