Why 1911 or 2011?

The 1911 and the 2011. Why do people including myself choose them?

In short, it’s simple yet complicated.
It’s a Pistol for those who like an element of or go all the way into Old School.
It’s a Pistol for those who want something with imperfections that a skilled Tinkerer or Gunsmith can work into perfection. That’s the lure for me.
Others still like the history behind the 1911 and it’s evolution into what we know as the 2011. One wouldn’t exist without the other.

I like a 1911 that simply works out of the Box, and Springfield Armory has been my favorite of the bunch for the 1911. Then you have the Prodigy which is the evolution into the 2011 space. For me, I like the AOS system topped with the Trijicon SRO. I then add a SureFire X300 and then take them for a spin at the range. Any imperfections will show themselves while I’m giving them a go at the range. At that point I’ll take them apart, see where the imperfections are, then work on it. For 1911, I go to Wilson Combat for aftermarket parts that I hand fit into the Pistol. For the 2011, that honor goes to Evolution Gun Works Atlas Gunworks. I’m into the 1911 and 2011 because of that ability for skilled hands to truly make them into a true work of functional craftsmanship. My 1911 and 2011 are the latest in a long line of Gunsmithing and Building Projects. We will see where it goes from here.

Why the 1911? You're owning a piece of history. It's America's most famous handgun. Standard US service pistol for 75 years. Still in use by operators in military and law enforcement today. Proven track record. The modern semi-automatic handguns wouldn't be here without the 1911. The 2011 is a newer iteration that is becoming increasingly popular.

Of the two, I prefer a single stack with no optic cut or rail. It's been going for over 100 years so something must be right with it. Every year it seems another company adds them to their lineup. If I want a double stack, I'll choose a HP or CZ 75. YMMV
