Why I Carry A Gun

I saw this written in another forum and it really struck a chord with me.

Why I Carry A Gun

I don’t carry a gun because I am paranoid.

I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I am evil.

I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government.

I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I am angry.

I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man.

I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate.

I carry a gun because, unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it.

I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Good list, TestMule. Like Bella, I carry a gun for all the reasons the author states. It may seem old fashioned, but I have always felt men need to be prepared to protect the ones they love.
Nothing wrong with old fashioned values, my friend. My husband can seem overly protective sometimes, and I don't mind it at all, but he knows I can handle myself in a situation if I have to.

Why I carry… for the ugly the world brings to our country and the ill intent folks already here …

“Over the course of that particular investigation, law enforcement seized about 650 kilograms of methamphetamine, 17 guns, $220,922 in cash and $12,200 in real and personal property, federal North Texas prosecutors said.”

I don't think I've discussed this here but on Easter Sunday we went to the daughter's house for the family get together.

After dinner my granddaughter asked my wife how we met.

While my wife was telling the story the fact that I carry a gun came up. This is not news to my Grandchild but her boyfriend seemed a little freaked out.

I've said this before but in my world there are two kinds of people, Family and everyone else.

My wife never would have told everyone else that story but she did say it in front of the boyfriend.

I don't give everyone else a reason to ask why I carry a gun. If everyone else were to ask I would simply deny that I even own guns but the boyfriend is family.

So I actually give it some thought as to what I would say if somebody deserving of a response were to ask why.

I decided to keep it very simple and very truthful.

My life experience has taught me that there are times when you specifically need a gun.

That's why I carry a gun.

FWIW the granddaughter actually did ask me why I carried a gun several years ago and I said pretty much what I said above.

A couple months later she came to visit the wife and I for something.

The day before she came over there had been an incident in downtown Colorado Springs in which some nut had stabbed 8 people at random.

While she was visiting I asked her if she remembered asking me why I carried a gun. She said she did and I asked her if she remembers the news story from the previous day.

She said she did and I told her that's why I carry a gun. I watched the light bulb go off in her head.

Yep…

This…

And this …

…is why I carry. Add in drug dealers roaming for prey with bravado

I carry a firearm for the exact same reason I carry a spare tire. I’m not expecting to use either, but if you need it, you need it badly-and nothing else will quite do the job. I know how to effectively deploy either if needed. I’ve legally carried for 4 decades. Family and 3trusted friends are theONLY folks I know who am aware of it. The only thing worse than having to use it would be to have those i love harmed while I watched. That’s why I carry..

I carry a gun because alligators are a real menace here in good ol' Florida.
