New Cartridge & Chamber 21 Sharp

21 Sharp ammo

How long before someone tries a 22LR round in one of these rifles or this ammo in 22LR firearm?

My guess is that it will fire in a .22 L.R. but at .010 - .012 undersized the accuracy would be pretty bad and vice verse a .22 LR fired in one would swage down the lead bullet without a stutter but again not so good accuracy. I see the chamber pressure on both is 24,000 PSI. I am sure the folks at Winchester have done this already with no ill effects or they would not have made the case / chamber essentially the same.

From a 09/18/2024 American Rifleman article-

"While the .21 Sharp will chamber in a .22 LR rifle barrel, due to its sub-caliber projectile, it cannot be fired with any degree of accuracy or precision. Additionally, .22 LR cartridges will not fit into a .21 Sharp chamber due to its heeled projectile. All that should be necessary for most .22 Long Rifle-chambered firearms to shoot the new cartridge is a .21 Sharp barrel. "

Next cartridge to slowly fade into obscurity.

There are like 20billion 22 lr and various 22 caliber cartridges rimfire and center and firearms to shoot them out there. Most makers make at least once of the above.

Play taps sooner rather than later.
