Was just thinking the other day, with all the major gun manufacturers producing polymer guns, why hasn’t Colt jumped into the polymer arena? All of Colt‘s competitors having been producing them for quite awhile now, I know Colt just started making revolvers a few years ago, but I would be interested to see what kind of polymer gun they could come up with.

They did; the Colt 2000...

Miserable failure.

Beyond that...they have a polymer framed model of the Mustang .380, but that’s about it.

(And I think you mean Colt started making double action revolvers again a few years ago...except for a couple very brief periods (WW2, for example), the Single Action has been continuous production since the 1870’s...)

Hmmm, good question Anni. It could be, that they saw an opportunity back in the revolver market, and decide to jump in to obtain some of that market share. They were making their AR15's, but almost (if not all), jumped into that market, and were sold at substantially lower prices forcing Colt to temporarily (?) get out of that market. Since almost all are now producing polymer pistols (heck even Beretta jumped in with their APX series), perhaps Colt wants to first stick with something they know and were good at (revolvers), before attempting getting into the polymer frame guns. I don't know, just a thought on my part

Was it a design failure or sale failure?

My opinion:

Even the polymer market is getting over saturated with everyone making a pistol now.

The more well known premium companies are starting to face stiff competition from smaller cheaper companies that are putting out reliable lower cost options cutting into their profit margins making the polymer market less attractive for companies like Colt to break into.

Hmmm , 10mm say:

"smaller cheaper companies that are putting out reliable lower cost options"

I guess he's an expert on this subject, as he owns several Hi-Point Yeet Cannons . He's the voice 🗣 of experience to be sure. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL:

Not that there's anything wrong with Hi-Point, (or Yeet Cannons specifically), 10mm 😏

Hey Hi-Point grandmaster why do you keep calling me an expert when all I did was put in that custom order with Hi-Point for you for the new BET-Cannon!

You know the custom one you kept raving about with bolt action slide, your name etched into the frame, having a max capacity 3-1/2 rounds of ammo and it weighs 45 pounds. 😜👍

I'm sending it back to you. I told you I wanted it in gold, to match my Deagle 50ae :LOL::LOL:

Hey I know chickens taste good!

And you can milk them! 🤪👍

There has been a lot of new polymer guns being produced, Mossberg, Stoeger, Sccy, Honor Guard to name a few newer ones, maybe that’s why Colt isn’t in the polymer gun business, like 10mm said, smaller companies are making cheaper ones, but it would be interesting if they did come up with one.

I wonder what kinda features would set Colt apart in the polymer pistol market and also keep the gun cost competitive. PDW type guns are becoming popular now and that market is still ripe for new development so maybe they could come up with something to compete there with a cost under $1000.
