Wondering.......

I wonder what kinda features would set Colt apart in the polymer pistol market and also keep the gun cost competitive. PDW type guns are becoming popular now and that market is still ripe for new development so maybe they could come up with something to compete there with a cost under $1000.

I’d like a nice Pony PDW.

Come out with something in .45, with at least a 20rd capacity...maybe run of Thompson or grease gun mags, at around $1k, I’d buy one.

Colt has joined with the anti-gun crowd I own two old Colt firearms DELTA HBAR AR 15, 1911 SERIES 70 but I am Boycotting them NOW.
I remember years back S&W did about the same, supported all kinds of stuff a gun company shouldn’t have done, I stayed away from them for years, but, like water under a bridge, it passed, I own several new S&W guns, I don’t even think about it anymore.

It seems like everything they do, is on purpose to hurt their business. Example diluting their brand with allowing other companies to use the Colt logo to put out "budget" rifles. Charging 3 times the price for a "retro" rifle. Telling customers for years they have their govt contracts so they don't need the civilian orders. Pull Colt AR's from firearms distributors so companies can order based on need.

I can't justify 2k for a python or old school Cobra, didn't like the idea of a base model AR costing 500 more than someone else's fully loaded model. They did produce a very good weapon, but honestly, no better than anyone else's. The SAA and the 1911 seems to be what they are known for. Their dbl action revolvers are a close third.
Just as Springfield will always be synonymous with the M1 and M14, even though others produced them.

Well...they actually were better than everyone else, for quite some time...the LE6920 was considered the “gold standard” which all others were judged against...for a long time, if you wanted an AR with an MP and HP tested bolt & barrel, Colt was the only game in town...it wasn’t until the sunset of the AWB that other companies started stepping up their games...and for a long time, their rifles ran just as much as the Colt.

It’s really been in the past 10 years that the AR market changed...and honestly? I’d still take my 6920’s over a lot of newer AR’s with more bells & whistles.

Don't get me wrong, I liked colt , still do. I had a 6731 (slime bill compliant). It was absolutely amazing what my wife could do with that thing. 200 yards, iron sights, 16" barrel and 55 grain UMC ammo, she shot the head off my steel silhouette. I'm not badmouthing Colt, just can't justify the extravagant bump in price. Yeah, its quality but at the time Armalite and Bushmaster were top competitors as well. I was disappointed when Colt announced that they were pulling out of the rifle game. I'm just thinking that they're playing to their base. 1911, SAA and the serpent series of revolvers. They have a niche that they are known for. I think they are smart for focusing on their core. I don't believe, as stated before, that they are taking an anti-gun position. Come on, really ? You're a firearm manufacturer for Christ's sake. Think! When the time is right, they might return to the rifle market, until then, maybe the prices will drop a touch on a new model python or anaconda? Maybe. We can hope.
Can we also hope that Cerberus never dips their toe into the firearms industry again. We don't need the market further reduced.

I don’t think it was political.

Colt pulled out of the AR market because it was, quite simply, oversaturated...they weren’t able to compete, and, in my experience, they were having some serious QC issues...it allowed them to concentrate on getting other lines straightened out (and, likely, start producing more of their Snake series revolvers).

When I picked up the M1A, I was looking at one of their new railed 1911’s...it seemed quite well put together; no more plastic MSH, clean trigger, positive controls, barrel/slide fit was good...I may have to look at one in the near future.
