Wood grip feedback

I'm thinking about replacing plastic grips on my Girsan hi power with checkered wood grips, probably from Hogue. They offer Goncalo Alves, cocobolo, Pau Ferro and Rosewood. What experience do you have with these woods and what do you think about them? My gun is black and I'm leaning towards the Goncalo or cocobolo the most thinking they're reddish and would look nice. This would be for range use and occasional carry. I want more of a round profile than a slab.

I have used both Goncalo and Cocobolo on my 1911's and both add a very nice look. Living in S Texas I find the wood gets very slick with our heat and humidity. If I didn't shoot my 1911's so often at the range wouldn't have had an issue. With occasional practice and carry then I say Hell Yes because they do add a very nice look. Ordered mine from here and they have a large wood and size selection.

Just looked and it looks like rosewood is out of stock but its a pretty color. It's what I chose for my model 60.

for my S/A 35, all i did was buy a can of spray clear lacquer, and coated those wooden grips (inside and outside) a couple of times.

i have bought name brand grips from amazon as well, they do (or did) have Hogue grips. you may have to look for Browning Hi Power, i just found them

My AO M1911A1, cause it is the most authentic reproduction of the Military M1911A1...
I replaced the M1911A1 Plastic Grips with Hogue Walnut Checkered Grips....

The performance is great, the walnut is hard and the checkering is aggressive, it has great bite...
The appearance slightly altered, I stripped the original finish, and sanded, wired brushed them, then finished with 6 coatings of pure tung oil, wet sanded/wired brushed in, then steel wool/nylon brushed in, then finger rubbed/tooth brushed in with 2 days to cure between coats.... It deepened and highlighted the colors, but more importantly, gave it that rubbed in tung oil feel...

Up to you if you think its worth it, but I refinished my new grips using pure tung oil. I got it off amazon, bear in mind that most tung oils you get in hardware stores is far from pure and some sort of polyurethane finish with tung oil mixed in.

Keep in mind, to do tung oil the old fashioned way takes time, not much work for pistol grips since they are so small. But, it takes several days for each coat to dry, so its 2 weeks or more to finish...
