Anyone else watching this series ? Last night my Dad came up to fix some electrical issues (Mr. Fix-It). and together we watched the show and Greg 'The Hammer" Valentine my favorite wrestler was on. As a kid my Dad had an "in" with the general manager of the local arena so I got to "sneak" backstage so to speak whenever the wrestlers came to town and I met a lot of the old school wrestlers. (Man the stories I can tell from a kid's perspective). It was awesome to sit with my Dad and watch this show. He's 81 now and the mind is slowly fading but it was so great to sit back and remember the good old days with my Dad. Anyone else watching ? And who's your favorite wrestler ?

when i was a kid, there was "saturday afternoon wrestling" on the tv of course.

black and white tv mind you.

i cannot recall the names of those guys, but to me, that was wrestling at it's best.

too commercialized now, too many tv stars, way lots more money...sorta like professional sports........kinda lost interest in wrestling as i grew older.

Wrestling at The Chase. That was filmed at The Chase Park Plaza hotel off Kingshighway in mid town STL. It's where rock stars and celebrities stay when they're in town. Or used to. Anyway, I was never into wrestling, but I did meet all those guys a few times. The Von Erichs, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Pat O'Brian, Bulldog Bob Brown, Nature Boy Ric Flair ( Woooo) Andre The Giant, King Kong Brody, etc..

My older Sister used to work the front desk at the local fitness center and sometimes before the local shows some of the wrestlers would stop in lift weights, sign autographs and sometimes appear on the local news. One time she brought some of my friends and I there to meet them. I remember meeting Ivan Putski, Tony Garea, Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant there. This was before cell phones and technology but I remember all of us kids with disbelief meeting Andre. He was so kind hearted that he took all of us kids (my Sister too) to the pizza shop a few doors away and had all of us gather around him while he ordered all of us pizza and soda. He then invited us all to the match later that night and had made arrangements to get us all seats ringside. What great times those were and not just Andre but all the wrestlers were so kind to us all.

For me it was Handsome Harley Race, Rufus R Jones, ect. My aunt and uncle were big wrestling fans. My aunt broke 4 TV sets throwing ash trays when Race cheated to win. Lol. My uncle had front row seats when came locally. Race slammed another wrestler into the ring post in front of him. He said it sounded like someone dropped a watermelon. He felt sick to his stomach and left. Lol. The best was the attitude era. We fixed lasagna and breadsticks every Monday night and watched Raw. We had a house full every Monday night. Lol.

Tooks the boys to the Richmond Collisium to see the WWF 4 or 5 times back in the day. I can remember seeing "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, The Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, The Rock, Steve Austin, Chyna, Bret and Owen Hart, Big Boss Man, The Road Warriors, Kurt Angle, and The Bushwhackers. It was more fun than going to see The Ringling Bros Circus. I remember after a Saturday afternoon match we walked down to get a closer look at the ring. The work crew was busy taking it down and my youngest asked them why they were in such a hurry. One of the men told him that they had to set up in DC for another match by 7PM, and all the wrestlers were on a bus headed there. My son asked if all of the wrestlers were going to do again that night to which the man replied, "Yep son and all the same guys were going to win again to." That's about the time they began to learn the truth about pro wrestling.

Yea, most know it’s all staged, it’s not like it was back years ago, still entertaining though, today it’s just fights, no wrestling moves or anything like before….. but it gives me something to do and keeps me out of trouble…..
