šŸ˜” XD-M Elite OSP - RMR - Screw Length

Ok so I was stoked to get my RMR mounting plate today. I installed the plate with the three screws that held the plate cover and of course there were no screws or instructions provided with the plate. The RMR has two screws provided but of course they are about 2mm too long and they hit the plate. My dreams of a weekend range day are smashed šŸ˜«

Are red dot users supposed to grind these to the proper length or what? Is there something Iā€™m doing wrong? Did I miss some documentation?

So you didnā€™t mention the optic and where you got it, I just mounted a Holosun on my Compact Elite, the plate I received from Springfield was attached with the screws from the cover and my Holosun came with two sets of screws of different lengths. If you got gun/optic from Springfield call them.

I am building a system that hopefully, if Iā€™m lucky, never has to be relied upon to protect my family, but if it does, I want it to WORK. It is meant to be a home self defense pistol to be handled by myself or my two boys. My wife has access to and is more comfortable with a Glock 43.
  • The Optic is a Trijicon RMR v2 6.5 MOA
  • The firearm is a XD-M Elite OSP Tactical 9mm
  • The adapter plate is a #3 which fits the RMR line and Holosun - Part Number: XD5073
The RMR is an awesome, quality optic and one that I spent a good bit of time reviewing along with the Hex Series and Holosun a bit too. A chunk of change was spent as well. My local gun shop is a good one that doesnā€™t believe in scalping so I support them when I can, so it was purchased from them for an extremely fair price. It was not purchased from Springfield Armory.

Similarly the XD-M Elite OSP Tactical 9mm is an awesome gun. It has surpassed my expectations with almost every aspect and my Glock handguns are getting less love these days. I have read tons of reviews and watched tons of videos and a great deal of them feature an RMR on top (which to my understanding all have the same footprint excluding the narrower RMRcc).

The plate, is what it is, and seems to be fine for intended purpose: hold optic to firearm and not lose zero. Iā€™m actually impressed at the speed in which the plate arrived. They said ā€œplease allow 4 to 6 weeks for deliveryā€¦ā€ but it came within a week. Surpassed my expectations there too.

Iā€™m not trying to do something crazy. Iā€™m trying to mount what some would consider a de facto standard red dot, onto what some would consider (if youā€™re here on this board because an XD-M Elite Series pistol like me) to be their next staple line of firearms.

Springfield Armory decided not to ship with plates, Iā€™m fine with that, saves them money and some people will not put a plate or a dot on their OSP firearm.

The firearm comes with a card with a sentence or two on how to mount an optic. The website comes with none (that I could find anyways). The package comes with the plate and a packing slip. A great & fantastic & maybe even a PROPER place, IMVHO, to put some information about screw length, or where to get the 19$ Trijicon screws, or since it shows only 4 optics, a total of 8 pairs of screws might have been able to ride along with the plate?

Am I being a whiny baby about this thinking that I deserve information at the very least, when everything else has surpassed my expectations? I donā€™t think so. Reddit and many other boards contain topics matching my experience. (ā€œXD-M OSP screw lengthā€ search will show you) I would have been a bit bummed, but even a little blurb along with the plate that said, grind your screws down, contact your optic mfg, screw size with thread pitch isā€¦ Would be something. You know?

I will do a little bit more research and then I guess Iā€™m off to get the screws from Trijicon and cross my fingers.

Be safe and have a good one everybody!

I used too know what was compatible with the other. I like the rmr, but can barely get it to 0 at a close range on the g41. I will soon be ordering an optic mounting plate for the xdm 10mm precision due too not being optic ready. Trijicon should come with mounting screws, well at least mine did. It's a type1 and supposedly not suited for auto pistols? I've never had an issue with it so I don't know what the issue really is?

The issue is the screw length of the screws included with the Trijicon RMR. They are too long and there are no other screws or information were provided by Springfield Armory.

So I can go find some small bolts or washers and stack them until the screws secure into the plate but do not go so far as to hit the frameā€¦ haha šŸ˜‚ No, we will not be doing that.

So Iā€™m just wondering. Everyone else who has an OSP version pistol, put on the proper plate, mounted their red dot - the factory screws that came with the optic are the right length and just fit?

This really cool dude has one

For the RMR, it is usually necessary to shorten the Trijicon supplied screws or order a set of slightly shorter screws from Trijicon: https://www.trijicon.com/products/details/ac32064

When you pull up an RMR on Trijiconā€™s site, it says this: NOTE: The RMRĀ® Type 2 has identical physical dimensions and mounting footprint to that of the original RMR Type 1. If selecting an RMR for mounting on the GlockĀ® MOS, SpringfieldĀ® OSP, WaltherĀ® PDP, or H&KĀ® VP9 Optics Ready, a Trijicon RMRĀ® mounting kit (AC32064) is required.

Thatā€™s it! I found that as well on Reddit while researching. Itā€™s a second plate so I wonder if itā€™s the same screws and you just place the plate underneath to raise it up enough to have the screws not bottom out. Thanks for the info @Steve K. !

I found an eBay seller today who was extremely fast to reply to me about his screw set that is designed exactly for this issue and Iā€™m going to go that way vs a Trijicon second plate.

I hope this helps anyone who comes across it. I will post the screw length
