XD slide will not fully open

My XD 45 slide will not go forward all the way. It sticks at about 75% forward & I can not disassemble the weapon. Can anyone provide me advice or a solution.

Did the issue with the slide happen after firing, reassembly or was it something that just happened after trying to rack the slide?
After firing. The shell did not eject, it was stuck since the slide would not fully open. I dropped the magazine & managed to get the shell out. This happened on the 3rd round. They were not reloads.

Are you able to examine the case that was stuck? If so look for missing or chipped off brass which could have jammed up your slide. This isn't a common issue with firearms but it's been known to happen from time to time in AR platform firearms and sometimes pistols. This can happen for multiple reasons with the most common being case rupture.

It doesn't take a large piece of brass to get lodged somewhere it shouldn't for this to happen.

Also is this a brand new firearm or something you've shot previously?

I have examined the case etc & I do not see anything ie. Brass etc. There maybe something in there, initially I was only able to move the slide 50% open. With a little WD40 & light coaxing it moved and stopped at 75%. I need instructions on how to get it disassembled with moving the slide open further. Thank You

I would recommend reaching out to Springfield customer service as they offer a lifetime warranty on all their firearms with free shipping each way.

Most likely you had a squib, then fired a second round and bulged the barrel. thats what it looks like when customers have bought guns into me to fix. Is there a round stock in the barrel? If not you can shine a light in the chamber and look down the barrel you will see a shadow that looks like a doughnut

You said it did this while firing. If you had done this during reassembly/disassembly the guide rod slipped where it‘s not supposed to go, inbetween the locking block and barrel. The fix is to put some thing like a small crescent wrench and close it until it fits behind the end of the head of the guiderod. Then pull the guiderod out unlocking the slide.
