XDs .45

I have two of these and use them EDC. I am a firearms instructor with a state certified school.
My issue is, I want to replace the front sight on these handguns (eye issue/front sight blur due to operation).
I have a professional sight pusher tool, but cannot move these sights - plural because they will not move on
either firearm.
Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you

OK guys... It worked... seems the front sight dovetail is extremely close tolerance...almost a transition fit. I let the liquid wrench set overnight and then used the sight pusher tool (from Sylvan Arms)...it was slow, but it moved until it was out. Putting in the Trijicon front sight (XDs specific) was just as tight...there are position marks in the groove, so that helps.
Thanks for the tip.

That's great news. Thank you for letting us know.

Sorry to hear that. Personally, I would take it to a gunsmith. I know, there will be a cost involved but just to offset your aggravation, it may be worth it. I know if I was using a dremel, I would damage the slide and I would never be able to unsee it. (I'm one of those types) Out of curiosity, is this the fiber optic you are replacing not the optional tritium?

You are totally right about that....I have made an appointment for Monday. I am removing the fiber optic and replacing it with the Trijicon tritium front sight. I did briefly consider the dremel, but common sense prevailed ;) Thanks for your help. By the way, the first one I did turned out great. Cheers, RickO

Great idea. I had a similar issue one time and the person I brought it to said he had to do some machine work on the slide were the front sight was located. Didn't end up charging me for it so that was nice. He had it longer than I would have liked though. (hence, why he didn't charge me additional).

I have the fiber optic on my XDE. It's OK, but I feel better being able to see them in low light. I went for the optional tritium sight for my XDS.

Good luck with the other sight. Hopefully you will be good to go Monday.

I work at a modern, indoor range, (not working due to the situation right now) and we have a resident gunsmith...and actually the guy who manages the facility is also a gunsmith... so I will not be charged anyway...Not sure how they will end up resolving this one...but they have some tricks.

OK... It took two gunsmiths an hour and fifteen minutes to remove that front sight....So it was not just me...They said it was super 'frozen' in there due probably to a slightly oversize sight dovetail and the slot being slightly undersize....So, that project is finally complete, new sight installed.
