Your Dominant Eye...an Experiment

Being left eye dominant, I cannot see thru a scope with a rifle on my right shoulder.
I naturally try to look with my left eye.
When I try with my right, still only see black.
But, I cannot close one eye, nor can I wink.
Shoot always rifle or pistol w both eyes open
I don't shoot scoped rifles with both eyes open. And I can shoot from either side equally well.

Meh.

Left eye dominant RH pistol shooter, didn’t know or realize this 30 yrs ago. An Optometrist can verify the extent when fitting for corrective eyeglasses, and most importantly…an annual eye exam is essential as we all age - get one.

Long ago an Instructor advised me to shut my L eye while target shooting. It works, so does tilting the head ev’r so slightly to compensate. Problem he said, is closing one eye decreases peripheral vision say in a tactical defense situation when you want to see a full field for other threats. I would have to really think about it in that situation if I fired upon an armed attacker with one eye or two.

Eye dominance factor is important for a couple other things beyond target practice. Many sports rely on tracking a moving ball or object. Makes you wonder why so many young baseball players can’t hit a ball? I can say I was one of them. Though professional trainers are aware of dominance factor, adjusting the training is part of their job. But those T-ball and little leaguers aren’t. I’ll bet many kids could benefit knowing early about eye dominance factor and again…get an eye exam as part of any health wellbeing regiment.
