Gun and Knife carry

When I was assigned to Division staff. I had a Specialist that wanted to get a knife for our deployment to Iraq. He wanted a Rambo” style knife.
I showed him what I carry and during developments. I explained to him the Pros-vs-Cons of what he wanted to get.
He ended up getting a Gerber Strongman.
The Chris Reeves with his one piece integral blade and handle is the only hollow handled knife i would ever carry.

I bought my Gerber Strongarm close to the time that I retired. I know it was after we got our lump sum payment from the VA and I decided to get serious about putting together a get home bag.

I chose the Gerber Strong Arm based on the review video that I'm linking to in the bottom of this post but I paid I think $70 for it and the last time I saw one in the store they wanted pretty close to a hundred bucks. I don't remember the exact price but it was somewhere between $100 and $120.

I like my Strongarm. It's definitely a good knife but I wouldn't pay $120 for it. I'm not sure I'd pay $100 for it

Seven year update.

There was another guy in my unit who was walking around with some dragon fantasy knife taped to his LBE.

I told him one set it wasn't appropriate or even particularly useful.

I remember having to coach him once on a rifle range and this guy couldn't shoot a horse in the ass if he was sitting in the saddle.

And I remember pointing out to him that he really needed to work on his Marksmanship and he told me that his preferred weapon was a Bo Staff.

I reminded him that his adversaries would be using AK47s and asked how he thought that might play out.
 It's people like this that always get me in trouble. Okay it's my unwillingness to engage my brain and filter before engaging my mouth. I can see and hear it now. "Ah What? A Bleeping Bo staff? Someone is going to turn you into a bleeping popsicle. Get the bleep of my bleeping range you stupid, bleeping, bleep bleeper." Even back in the dark ages that was considered a bit over the top.
Like fine wine I have mellowed in age.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::devilish:
When the boy went to Iraq the first time, he wanted a knife to take with him. I offered Dads K-bar that dad carried during WWII and Korea. He declined. We did find a Camillus Pilot Survival Knife that he carried on three deployments.
