It's a solid pump action shotgun. I have the same shotgun but with a black synthetic stock. Mine has a red dot sight and I use it for turkey hunting. I've also used it on geese and coyotes. The 870 12 ga 3" Magnum is tough to beat.

My thoughts are if you are going to carry a full size, why no carry a 45 ACP? Yes it's reduced carrying capacity but there's no replacement for displacement.
