Remington 870 Info?

Hi everyone,

I was recently given an older Remington 870 12 gauge by my Uncle and would like to know more about it.

The shotgun is in like-new condition and comes in the original box with all the paperwork and three RemChoke tubes.

I ran the two letters stamped on the barrel over on Rem870.com and the gun was made in 1993.

It has a cool, yet strange camo pattern that I haven't seen before over what appears to be a synthetic stock and forend. The trigger guard is made of metal and the words "Special Purpose" are stamped under the ejection port.

That's about all I can tell you! :)

Where does this gun fit in the long and diverse line of 870s?

There were several 870 models with the Special Purpose marking. The marine grade was plated for marine environments. Your gun with Mossy Oak camo was marketed as a waterfowl and turkey gun and were well liked by dove hunters. I spent many hours behind an 870 as a student and instructor as well as on the dove field, and they are my favorite home defense gun. The changeable chokes make it truly versatile.

Now an "Assault Weapon" in Illinois. You cannot buy these legally anymore and would need to register them by January or face felony charges.

Nice shotgun👍
Enjoy and care for it. It will last you a long, long time for all sorts of needs

Please educate me here in Florida. I read over the Illinois satute and see nothing that would make the pump shotgun illegal. What am I missing?
There is some contention that because the law states for shotguns to be legal they have a " fixed magazine of 5 shells " .

However with the availability of extended mag tubes , you no longer have a fixed capacity magazine on your shotgun when it comes to Remington and Mossberg and probably more I don't know about,

The only mention of shotguns I could find in the assault weapons ban statute was related to semi-auto shotguns. There is another passage that states it does not apply to pump guns. Perhaps there is an amendment or a separate statute? Banning a pump shotgun seems pretty extreme even for Illinois, but then I emigrated from there in 1969. There is probably a pump gun in every house south of I-80. Ya'll can read the statute on line, maybe I am missing something.

There are a lot of nuances in the law and being as to how Illinois likes to twist things , we have to be very careful. There are many firearms that fall under this law that people would never think possible . For example , a .22 pistol with a threaded barrel , or one that has magazines available that hold more then 15 rounds.

The law is a steaming pile of excrement that comes out of the South end of a North bound bull.

If push comes to shove, they will interpret the law to include those stubby 1⅝" or 1½ short rounds and now 'everybody' is a felon. This F'in slob Prickster is the worse thing to happen to Illinois since Madigan.
Not to mention that anyone who bought a saint anything, is now "required " to register by years end. How long before we get the visitor in the night?

You got it right! Between the short shells and the expandable magazine, they got what they wanted - less legal guns in Illinois. They also hit the .410 shotguns with revolving actions.

Just as we have done for years with full auto and suppressors, many of our firearms are now resting on our farm in Tennessee. We are now in a Chicago commie controlled state. I doubt if we will ever see a real Republican elected to state wide office ever again.

Given that JB the Hut :poop: has passed a law making it legal to hire non US citizens (who don't give a dam about our Constitution or our way of life) to police and enforce these laws it likely won't be long.

Yes but I have not had my question answered. I think this law is stupid and unconstitutional but somebody please give me a cite from the law where it would prohibit a pump action 870? I have friends and relatives in Illinois who hunt with pump shotguns. The only mention I see in the statute of pump shotguns is that they are not included in the assault weapons definition. I am not trying to be argumentative here but I deal in clarity where law is concerned, not urban legend or opinions or extrapolation. Perhaps the state police can give some clarity on the subject. I will keep my fingers crossed that the Supreme Court will overturn the lsw.
