147 grain 9mm questions

I have two boxes of federal Hydro shock 147 grain hollow points. They’re like brand new but approximately 30 years old. What’s anybody’s opinion on using those for a self-defense around
Why would you?

If new self-defense ammunition is available, even if it's new Federal 147 grain Hydroshocks why wouldn't you spend the $20 or $30 it would cost to replace it?

124 grain HST either standard or plus is P works from 3” to 5” guns.
Indianapolis Meteonises the 124 plus p HST and drop guys like bad habbits. It’s pretty much maxed out with 4” barrels so what it clicks in a Glock 19/45 it will not gain in a 17. Their range staff tested it through both.

147’s are better out of 4 1/2-5” guns but if your looking for pure what’s “probably” gonna do better the 124’s or the 135 plus O Critical Duty is also a great round and the Marshals Service Texas DPS and Kansas State Troopers have shown that round is very effective.

That said Shot Placement and penetration solve more issues than caliber, expansion and capacity does

I have. The question was was that round any good for self-defense?
Dr Gary Roberts says that any caliber/load .38 Special or larger that penetrates at least 13 inches in properly calibrated ballistic gelatin is adequate for defensive use. In 147 grain Hydroshocks meet those criteria they're good for defense.

This list was compiled by Dr. Gary Roberts. I try to choose from it.

what the heck is this...???
Sorry missed it. Indianapolis Metro Police Department .several years ago Indianapolis decided they wanted to be like Nashville TN and so a Metro and merged yhe majority of the Sheriffs Office with IPD for “Metro” like new patches and everything. It seems to be working pretty good like 13-15 years later.

They are dumping bad guys with 124 HST plus P one or 2 times a week.

Because there is nothing wrong with it?

It’s the same bullet as modern HydraShok, and as long as it’s been kept in a relatively stable environment (ie, indoors), it’s not going to have ignition issues.

I’d use it with no second thoughts.
