1911 Mil-Spec Issue

it's funny, just not in the humorous way, that even when i wear my safety glasses, and a baseball cap, with the cap's bill about touching those glasses, a hot brass shell casing still manages to get in between the bill, and the glasses and onto my cheek under the glasses..!!

i have had shell casings bounce off the ports walls, and into my face, hit me in the forehead, go down my shirt, you name it, it's happened.

i have had my shell casings hit my guest in the head, if he stands just off to the side of me, watching my target.....

and there have been times i get hit with shell casings from the shooter in the port next to me, as his casings enter my area, then bounce off my walls.

i just never been hit as hard as you have been.

that suggests to my limited experience over these other guys, a hot loaded cartridge....

i'll say this too...try another gun, hopefully with the same "lot number" as the box you just used, and see if anything happens then as well....

easier to blame the gun 1st, then the ammo....

but still, call S/A, and explain it to them....
You need to shoot revolvers!

oh i have 5 of them, and i like each one too..but they are in "rotation" to get to the range like all my others.

and yeah, i have had some issues with reloaded ammo, not mne, but reloads i bought at the store.

split casings..?? how da hell do you let that slip by..??

one "excuse" i can come up with the old man (former owner and long time smith in his 80's) that helped his son, just did not see it......??....(he had been having heart problems, and died earlier this summer)

then other issues like not properly seating the bullets, and stopping the wheel from spinning...

on the factory new side, at least once, a bit hotter load (S&B) , and that was in .357......i felt every bit'o that.....

A few things:
1. when the round was chambered if it hit the feed ramp really hard the slug could have been pushed farther back into the case.
2. If you were rapid firing maybe the round fired out of battery.
3. If you were shooting “low gun” and the round ejected straight up and back the ejection bar (or whatever the proper name is for the part) might need adjustment (call Springfield, they will treat you right)
4. It could have been a greater charged round that escaped QA.

In any case, I’m glad it is just a skin ding and not something more serious

I have definitely had my fair share of brass pop me over the years but nothing like this. I shot the same lot of bullets throw my Glock 41 and Kimber Custom that same day with no issues but I’m definitely thinking more of it just being a freak incident with a hot round.
I would also call ammo manufacturer to let them know what happened.

Late to the game but, a couple comments. First, this is the first thing I thought of.

Second, any feedback from SA? (or Federal?)

Glad you are okay.

I have them landing on me all the time Mostly indoors. Indoors they seem hot enough to burn with the 45.
They land in your hoodie ,on your arm, and down the neck, never had anything like this though.

i stopped the "hoodie catch", by turning the hood inside out, now the casings fall to the floor.

i stopped the "down the neck", by buttoning up the top button.

summertime, i do not wear t-shirts, i wear a button work shirt.

i think the indoor range situation is due to the bouncing off the walls of the port, or the lights just above.

where as at the outdoor range i went to, lots of space to each side, and above the head.
