Good read, Thanks Mike! I have several Springfield 1911s, and I can actually shoot them better than most of my striker fire pistols. Sounds like the TRP would be a good one to train with.

That may be the reason many of us old timers stick with blued steel and nice walnut grips. It’s just plain physics, the heavier the gun the less recoil is perceived. Great article!

i'll care not to carry one as well.

Poly guns have less perceived recoil since the majority of the weight is in the slide.

I've got 4 1911s now, but my .45 Shield is a softer shooter and weighs in the low 20 oz. range. Just saying.

i practice with my service xd and 380
then once practice is over its all the 45s in heavy metal

I find perceived recoil to be a very individual thing. I have heard the various opinions and theories and all the arguments about them. Steel is heavier and feels less, polymer weight is in the slide, polymer fkexes etc etc. But in the end perception is just that an individual thing. I find just about even opinions on the two.

I have both , shoot both, do not find a big enough difference to make that big of a consideration on my choices.

One can hardly administer a proper pistol-whipping with a striker gun though.

I love my Combat Commander... if it had Optics, held more rounds and was 17 pounds lighter, I'd put it in my carry rotation. It is beautiful though.
