2023 Prodigy

I have the 2022 Springfield Prodigy, and at first I was worried it was a lemon on the first shots. It has since broken in and I am enjoying it. I saw a post about the 2023 version and that Springfield made a number of improvements to work out issues for the first generation. I would like to know what those changes are and how/if I need to get my 2022 model "worked out".

Glad yours is running well, as is mine!

Where did you see this info about the 2023 ad improvements? Can you please post a link?

There is nota a “new” version, when a defective gun comes in, it is inspected and tested. From there they try to figure out if it is an ongoing problem something a simple as say too tight a chamber, or there is a burr etc. From there they can adapt the manufacturing or inspection process. With manufacturing tolerances will vary from lot to lot. If you get the perfect storm you can end up with a batch that need to be addressed. As they build more and more of that particular pistol you gain the knowledge of what to look for/change tooling sooner or latter. There is no Gen 2 Prodigy, and if yours is working really no point looking for issues.

Steve from SA mentioned the problems with the initial releases at the SHOT Show, but stated that those issues have been worked out and should be corrected on later production runs.

IMO…based on actual RMA repair work orders from Springfield on other’s pistols as well as my own (that I’ve seen posted on the net in forums), I believe…the majority of the issues are:
improper barrel machining issues, many have had to have the chamber reamed and polished. Too shallow can cause all sorts of jam o MATIC.
The disconnector has a burr, it’ll clean up eventually but it’s there.
The ejector needs tuning and aligning.

I see a lot of guys going out and buying different mags and reporting success. I question that.
I measured feed lips on all of mine, 3 20 rounders, 2 17. They‘re not really in the “ideal” spec of what many say, after getting mine back from SA…all my mags run just fine, zero issues.

I’ll say this, I knew what I could be getting myself into…and sure enough it happened. 2 weeks later it was back in my hands I’m close to or over the 1K round count since being returned and it’s truly a joy to shoot.

I purchased a Prodigy 2 weeks ago and am very pleased with the accuracy and trigger. I have a custom 1911 in .45 and a Tanfoglio Gold Team in .40 and the Prodigy stacks up to them in both trigger and accuracy. I do have some suggestions for improvements.
First, let me say I have large hands, I wear XXL gloves. In spite of this, I find it difficult to thumb the magazine release without breaking my shooting grip, this slows a fast reload and getting back on target. I would also like to see a mag-well of a size large enough to allow the magazines to drop easily for those of us with big hands. This would also allow faster reloads.

I wear XXL gloves too and if I’m honest I haven’t come across a 1911 that I didn’t have to break my grip for. And of course with the double stack mag it just become that much harder. The best mag release IMHO is the HK paddle release. Super easy, super intuitive.

I’m with you guys…I’d add a slide release that is wider, I’m looking/thinking about the 10-8 release.
That thing is nearly impossible to manipulate …

Do you use your thumb on the paddle or your trigger finger ?

The slide release could use some grooves on the bottom to make it easier to push it up and lock the slide. Does anyone from Springfield ever read this stuff?
