For a while now I’ve had the feeling the tide has subtly turned (or started to) on all the ‘tactical wear’ and gear… but who knows?
It’ll always be there but seasons change.

Re: 5.11 - I’ve had a few items of gear but didn’t think their stuff was all that great for the $$.

They advertise too much for me; scream “this guy has a gun”.

I used to wear them, what I have left are pretty much reserved for range or class wear.

Closest I come now is Duluth Trading Company.
They started making a few Items that are not tactical looking.

The recently started making items that aren’t so tactical. The rust vest in the first picture is 511. They also have jeans and the liner looking Jacket. They are still pricey, but I try to catch the Veterans discounts

I’ll wear an insulated Carhartt vest this time of year if it’s above zero, over either a flannel, a fleece pullover, or a hooded sweatshirt.

It does a good job of concealing, and isn’t out of place for here.

NGL this entire discussion feels like a covert commercial.

5.11 actually started out as Royal Robbins rock climbing pants.

Feb 3 1935- March 14 2017.

It's funny to me that Royal Robbins has become a Couture brand.

When I worked for HSS I spent six years at a propane storage facility.

One of the site leads before me found some regulation that everybody that worked on that site was supposed to wear fire retardant all cotton clothing.

So they bought us all the 5.11 Royal Robbins pants and 5.11 Polos. It was a great security uniform but the Royal Robbins pants seemed kind of useless to me there wasn't any place to put my phone the magazine pocket wasn't and the cargo pockets weren't big enough to actually put anything in.

My last security assignment the uniform was 5.11 Stryke pants and a 5.11 Polo. So they sent me to the 5.11 store in Colorado Springs to get my sizes. The Styike pants cost 80 something dollars and this was 4 years ago. The Polos cost 50 bucks.

I talk about this a lot. I wear Wrangler cargos, a Dickies t-shirt and a Cabela's camp shirt from the thrift store. I can get all of that the price of one 5.11 Polo.

Last thing, and this is something I say a lot too. The next time you see somebody from the Department of Wildlife or a cop on TV, look at what they're wearing. If they're not wearing the old hard style uniform they're wearing 5.11 pants and a polo.

5.11s are cop clothes. Criminals notice people who dress like cops and so do cops. A criminal may not be able to tell you that those are 5.11 Stryke pants but I bet he can tell you cops wear those.

Like it or not 5.11 clothes are going to draw attention

So what your saying is a criminal want start any 💩 because they think I’m a cop or a cop is in their presence.
Perfect 👍👍👍

Wrangler flex waist for most things and cheaper Cargos from Kohls lately for yard work around the homestead wife gets really good sales on them.

Hoodie vest under an uninsulated microfiber jacket or leather jacket for most winter wear the hood on the vest allows them both to be put on and taken off like one garment. Berne hooded canvas coat for deep cold. Deerskin wool lined gloves when needed.

I wear 5.11 Tactical pants at work mostly. They're tough and they carry all the crap I have to cart around with me, and my radio doesn't always fall off when I'm bending like it does with jeans. I love them but it's not easy finding my size.
Do you order on line? My local store said they don’t Carry certain odd sizes. They said you have to get them online. He said if you find them in the store it’s from a return

I buy a lot of 5.11 gear, but I typically buy their non-tactical looking stuff (yes, they have a lot of it). The quality of their clothes is very good. I’ve never had anything shrink or fade in the wash and it’s all pretty durable. I’m fortunate in that I have at least three 5.11s within a stones throw of me so I can just drop in and peruse or I wait from them to do a free shipping promotion.

I like some of the Duluth pants (I have one of those across the road from my nearest 5.11), but I’m definitely not their demographic and I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy there.
