Gee, news flash, converting any semi-auto to full auto since June of 1934 unless you paid the tax and it was registered has been illegal. Since 1986 no new full autos could be manufactured and transferred. Thus new machine guns are banned. 🥲None of these Glock switches have ever been legal to make, sell, install, or processed. So what’s the point of making something illegal that’s already illegal in all 50 states? Just more grandstanding I guess, but then I am preaching to the choir.

He/they should be required to qualify for the citizenry exactly how any of this continued nonsense equals a safer existence. Of course, that is an impossibility, considering all the utter lies they peddle. Give me strength. . .
Glock switches are becoming a real problem. They are illegal, but the BGs get caught with them by local LE and don't get charged under federal law. For some reason local DAs won't hand these cases over to the feds and the feds don't pursue them. Its stupid. 🤬
In Alabama the ATF’s excuse is that the offender has to have knowledge of what a switch is. We just had a mass shooting in Birmingham over the last week. Multiple shooters with switches that assassinated two thugs (both who also had prior murder wraps) in a crowd. But ended up killing two innocent bystanders plus injuring like 14 plus others. Some of my local Birmingham PD friends are frustrated and have confiscated over 100 switches without one prosecution. This matches with friends at surrounding small city departments in “good” parts of town. One small city had over a dozen switches that they caught doing real police work but the feds give the excuse they may not have known what it was.

This is what I was told by a deputy assigned to the local FBI “under Federal Guidelines you have to prove that the subject had knowledge that the gun was full auto. Basically they have to admit it” which verified what I had been told by friends.

The decision to have a suspect admit knowledge on a Glock Switch case is a US Attorney Office decision not an agency. They don’t require one to have “knowledge “ that bag of crack was crack to charge them!

That said what I presume will come out of this is the US Attorneys Offices in all districts will start charging folks caught in possession.

As far as normal crime with guns out of Chicago the Feds pick up those cases as a ton of Chicago gang bangers are doing federal time in enhanced firearms charges. I have delt with a ton of the. In my 20 years. So this will add to it.

Once again, to restrict or outright ban the inanimate object will have very little to zero positive impact; errant individuals are at issue, not devices.

Does anybody here remember Project Exile?

In 1997 Richmond Virginia started prosecuting gun crimes in Federal Court and the Federal Court sentenced people to a mandatory minimum five years in federal prison. If I understand correctly they were also prosecuting Prohibited Peesons Federaly and sending them to Federal Prison.

From Wikipedia

Within the first year (1997–1998) Project Exile resulted in:[2]

  • The first Exile case made by Officer Gene Baskette, and Officer Mark Wooten of the Street Enforcement Unit of the Richmond Police Dept.
  • 372 persons indicted for Federal gun violations.
  • 440 illegally possessed guns seized.
  • 300 persons arrested or held in State custody.
  • 222 arrestees (more than 74 percent) held without bond.
  • 247 persons convicted.
  • 196 persons sentenced to an average of 55 months of imprisonment.
During the first year of Project Exile (1998), homicides in Richmond declined 33%, for the lowest number since 1987, and armed robberies declined 30%. In 1999, homicides declined another 21%.[2] By 2007, homicides in Richmond were down to 57 compared to 122 in the year before Project Exile.[4]

I read somewhere that a big part of the program was that offenders were sent to Federal Prisons away from their home state. Where they didn't know anyone in the Prison and it was too far for their family to go visit them. Which also had a deterrent effect but I can't find any documentation on that.

Unfortunately the program was discontinued because (It actually worked) it was found to "disproportionately affect African Americans."

Although, I'm hearing that certain places are bringing it back.
