I cooked up a crock pot of chili yesterday. We ate on it yesterday and today. Tomorrow we are cooking a ham to eat over Christmas. Leftovers will be put in a pot of black eye peas on Jan 1.
when all our kids were young, the wife always made more than we could ever eat at one sitting.I cooked up a crock pot of chili yesterday. We ate on it yesterday and today. Tomorrow we are cooking a ham to eat over Christmas. Leftovers will be put in a pot of black eye peas on Jan 1.
Sounds fantastic !Well, tomorrow I'll begin marinating a boneless prime rib (also to be injected into said prime rib).
Wednesday morning I'll pull it out of the marinate, and dry season it for its trip into the oven.
Also going to be making a breakfast casserole Christmas morning. I'll be prepping the eggs, and sausage tomorrow evening, so there won't be as much labor involved Christmas morning.
Tonight I'm having left over lasagna, my Mom cooked up a feast of it last night.
Sure looks good, I spent some of my youth working on my grandfather's shrimp boat. "Poppy Chauvin". His boat was out of Dulac Louisiana. Good times, never to be forgotten.Crawfish étouffée last night.
Got 2 pots of gumbo on for Christmas Day.View attachment 72311
People used to ride a horse to work too. My mom is all the time saving crap and then she just ends up pitching it later. Like some leftover salad. No one is going to eat that. On Thursdays we go up and have dinner with my folks. My mom always makes sure there’s enough of whatever it is so I can take it for lunch the next day. I take it. It makes her feel good. Or else she wants to go to some restaurant because she’s got $5 in bonus points or something. I have to remind her we’re not in the old country anymore.when all our kids were young, the wife always made more than we could ever eat at one sitting.
so leftovers were always available...unless, some of our kids had friends over, then sometimes, there was "just enough" to feed everyone 1 serving.
if i came home, off the road, i'd eat a PBJ sammich, so that the others could eat......the wife would cook up another meal later, which was appreciated.
now that everyone is grown up, wife (or i) cook up just enough for us to have 1 plate each.
funny too, seems like none of the grandkids, like left overs..they think all left overs are more of a waste, than a savings to extend to another meal.
they must have money to burn........if only they knew how things were back in our youth

my god, the inhumanities of that..
why i had no horse, so getting to work i had to walk 42 miles up several hills, in the heat, and humidity of summer, and the blizzard conditions of winter.
we had left over salads nearly every day, tell you what, nothing says good eating like wilted salad leafs.
when i was single, and dating my soon to be wife, she would invite me to her house for dinner....
after walking 86 miles, i looked forward to those left overs.
whaddya mean we ain't in the old country no more...???
if'n it wasn't fer us pioneers back in the days........you'd have no microwave nuclear reacting device to cook yer foods, nor have any modern conveyance vehicle......such as a horse and buggy...all you young'ns take for granted nowadays...!!
Looks delish !!!Dino Ribs on the pellet smoker turned out pretty dang good with some side green beans.
