Are You Prepared to Handle a Fentanyl Overdose?

I've had Fentanyl anesthetic for a couple of surgeries. As usual, it is not the substance that is the demon. The problem with fentanyl is that it is concentrated so it is hard for drug labs to mix accurately. Even calling them "labs" is a stretch.
I agree with you in principle, but the fact is the lab that is responsible for the majority what is produced in Mexico is also a meth lab, it's the size of a city block and is staffed by actual chemists and scientists.

As a retired LEO I am no longer likely to encounter life threatening mishaps. That said, I spent many days on firing ranges as an instructor and as a student. My youngest daughter is a trauma doc, has given me and my posse some training and advice on putting together a trauma bag, which is always in my vehicle. (The only thing I have ever needed out of there was a bandaid). Since many of my students and associates are over 65, I also have a portable AED in my truck. After reading this thread, I am going to add Narcan. Chances are I will never need any of that stuff, but just like my carry gun, if I do need it, nothing else will quite do. One never knows what misadventure might occur in your day to day wanderings. Thanks to the OP for the thread.

Hmm, interesting article.…

My answer to the title question “Are you prepared…etc” is No, I’m not.
Main reason is, I don’t intend to have a fetanyl overdose.
Oh, other people? I will gladly - and swiftly - respond by calling 911 from my very own phone and yelling for assistance if I’m someplace where first aid/Narcan might be available. I’ll do what I can until help arrives. But I’m not carrying Narcan around with me. Also not interested in becoming a qualified first responder.

Hope I don't sound too harsh, above. But, at the height of COVID I wore a mask and it wasn’t because I was told to. I wore it like a pair of work gloves - to protect myself.

(Did anybody else think from the first parts of the article that the author was going to explain the risks of fetanyl to non-drug users? Maybe I mis-read it…but I didn’t think author developed their thesis very well… Will leave it at that.)

Fentanyl overdoses are making headlines across the country, and many people remain unaware of how this crisis can impact them, often believing it only affects those in the drug-seeking community. The sad truth is that regular individuals are increasingly coming into contact with this dangerous drug. It is crucial to understand the risks and signs of a fentanyl overdose.

No, we are not. Wouldnt know where to begin with that... My First Responder cert lapsed when I retired and my wife's lapsed when she retired also..

My son had an appendectomy last year. We told the Dr’s we preferred they not use fentanyl. They did anyway.
He stopped breathing and the ER ICU team had to come in. He was in ICU for 2 days.
Cluster F&$k.
Unfortunately, hospitals and doctors do not care for our lives any more and on care about the huge bonus they get from big pharma.

In my case, my mother fell and broke a few bones and was in very bad condition and needed surgery and was transported to Miami hospital who was able to do the needed surgery.

In her papers, it clearly stated if she died do not resuscitate her.
She died on the table twice.
They kept alive, for her to be on tubes and long long hospital stay.
She looked dead as so pale and white and in so much pain and huge tubes down her throat (with that, she was not able to speak then). Tubes in both arms
We approached them and asked why did they not obey her living will?
They said, there was none,
WE go her records, pulled out the living will and showed them.
They just said, Oh

I wonder how much $$$$$$$ they made from her torture and zero interest in her wishes?
