Hi all, new member here. I definitely agree that is in states where exist that you need to conceal. However, I live in TX and have my permit, practice often etc.Although, I do conceal as I agree I don’t want attract attn but since Tx is open carry I believe people should have the right to open carry. This is also pretty significant part of me that believes if all places were or at least most then it would deterrent. We would in movies etc throughout history where only criminals conclealed thier weapons. After all it is the second amendment for a reason, I think this country get back discussing what made it the second in schools and kids to be learning how to shoot. That’s what the founders did and they did it due to the fact they felt that tyranny could occur hence the concept of the militia
 
At 5’11 185 pounds I’m definitely not oversized, 99% of the time I conceal carry OWB strong side right hip. Currently carrying XDM Elite 3.8 45ACP or 10mm Extended Mags, big hands.
I always wear oversized shirts and practice lifting the shirt for a clean positive draw, leather holster. Occasionally; “very occasionally” when I have to be extremely careful and ensure full concealability I’ll go IWB slightly forward of left hip for a cross draw with my snub nose Taurus 357 revolver.
I am very comfortable and confident with both conceal carry position’s.
I have NEVER been approached about carrying.
Practice, practice and practice.

Welcome to the forum Jt. I too live in an open carry state but carry concealed, and also with a permit. It's a personal choice, for a variety of reasons. Your other points are valid but for many of us, we still carry concealed.

I also live in Texas and both my wife, and I have a TX LTC. I live out in the country and open carry on my own property all the time. When I go into town or the city, I conceal my firearm in a fanny pack holster most of the time. My clothing most of the time is a tee-shirt and athletic shorts. Tee-shirts are larger than I need and cover over my fanny pack. No one even gives me a double look. In cooler weather and when I have to wear real clothes, it's an OWB holster on my right side.

Notwithstanding the other usual factors , cross draw can work quite well, with the right gun and holster . The critical factor is the Length of the gun .

( Yeah , yeah , not a stereotypical carry gun ) With 3.5 inch Vaquero Sheriff's* carried just in front of hip bone , bbl didn't jut out to the left , concealed under an untucked Dickies shirt , and was comfortable for sitting and driving .

* For Me * it required more of a cant than many CD holsters , but a " dual angle " will often have more angle than a purpose built CD .

No they don't. Plenty of people wear non tight shirts in everyday life . They might think you're not material for the Cover of GQ , but you're not unusual , or standing out as packing heat ( used ironically ) .

And even in 100 deg heat or swampy humidity , plenty of regular people wear grown-up clothes , and you're not overly standing out . Depending on the region and how you roll , a short sleeve work shirt , short sleeve snap western shirt , Guyabera , Hawaiian, etc .



* Yes , I meant 3.5 inch , not 3.75 inch . They were an early non catalog run with 3.5 inch , and standard Vaquero ( Blackhawk) grip . The demand must have been significant, as shortly afterwards the Sheriff became a Standard item , albeit with 3.75 and Birdshead . And later Montado with 3.75 and unique hammer .

yes. Bigg is right on the money here. Nobody wears tight clothes down here in the desert. Xdraw works fine, either from the hip or shoulder.
 
i use aiwb holsters, but it depends on where i am going, how i will be dressed, and what gun i will be carrying,(the gun will be a micro version of the most common calibers, 380, 9mm, .40, or .45) but is mainly the hellcat or lcp max. the holsters i have had the best result with are the kydex iwb or the "sticky" iwb holsters. i do use a "bellyband holster" once in a while
 
I gave up on the belly band holsters some years ago for a few reasons. I don't have a belly, it doesn't feel right and catches on things esp getting in and out of autos, and all that hassle with the pull tabs etc. Regular waist or hidden shoulder holsters for me.
 
I tend towards picket carry. Have a .380 Bodyguard which fits nicely in the front pocket of my trousers, spare clip in the other picket. Mind you, I live in a rural, kinda, area which has very low crime. Going to the big city, a Minuteman shoulder holster, with a hi-cap .CZ-40 in it.

Alas , my limiting factor is finding something that actually fits me .
. My screen handle isn't random . I would be size 14.5 , if such size existed .

But no half sizes in Big sizes . And with a lot of the " Big name " brands , the 14 will be just too tight and pinched, but their 15 flopping around like clown shoes .

So just have to try things on in person , hoping for a 14 that runs large , or a 15 than runs small .

. And on another rant . Nowadays when you see Big Sizes , they're seeming to only be in Wide and Extra Wide . But 14 Medium is rare bird .

Could be worse…I wear size 16. Goes with being 6-6. Blending in with the crowd is somewhat difficult.
 
Well my bro has size 15s so we often go hunting for shoes in his size. Concealed carry is one thing, but when you're large - does it really matter as much - not too many ppls scoping out you larger sized guys anyway
