Avoid Being a Target — Is Your Pistol Truly Concealed?

My .02? I prefer OTW. I have had no (known) issues with this carry. IWB is fine.

I use leather and kydex holsters. Paddle is fine but the kydex that lays flattest is one with a skinny paddle on each side or has belt loops.

I also tend to EDC the smallest thing I feel is what I need at the time. Micro compacts and snubbies hide pretty easily.

If you throw a rock in Colorado Springs you're going to hit a middle aged white guy, with a military haircut, wearing Wrangler cargo pants and a camp shirt.

When I'm out in public people almost never pay attention to me.. if I notice somebody is paying attention to me I'm paying attention to them

ETA: and if you really want to not be noticed make sure your shirt is OFG (Old Fart Green) like mine
Having recently escaped Colorado Springs I can verify this as fact.

Add a trucker hat and hiking boots and you become invisible. You are white noise.

So some Wrangler flex waist cargos, black high tops, gray t-shirt and Grunt Style hoodie round out my wardrobe today. I can guarantee I won't stick out.
If I saw a Grunt Style hoodie it would definitely trip my radar.
On the other hand, most people are not very observant
Most people aren't observant. The problem is the ones who are observant are the the ones that you have to watch out for.

Why ? It's just a lightweight, zipper front hoodie with a small GS logo on the arm. Made by veterans, worn by lots of veterans AND civilians. They support a lot of veteran causes. In fact the whole way I got mine is from a 16 year USMC combat veteran buddy of mine that happened to have extras from the large batch that was given to him to distribute among the homeless population is St. Louis city. Lots of people wear their apparel.

As it happens I was in a couple places yesterday that were filled with liberals. Including a busy Starbucks. I was also in a very busy bowling alley, an indoor go kart track and a Waffle House. No one gave me a second glance.

I don't worry so much about what a person wears. Around here it's the haircut you have to watch for! I see this, and I know they are trouble!

I'm going to come out and say it now, I don't dress like I'm a guy carrying a gun, but I don't go too far out of my way to avoid dressing like a guy that might have a gun either. I might be wearing a 6 Tactical t-shirt or my favorite "I Hate People" t-shirt. Or like today a Sublime t-shirt. I might have a flannel on or I might have a hoodie on. Just like thousands of other people around here. Unlike most of those people though I am acutely aware of anything or anyone in my sphere of influence. It's like teaching yourself to dream lucidly and have full recollection of all your dreams. Once you do that there is no going back. And it ain't always pretty.

gray man fits it anywhere.
I think the gray man thing is an internet invented misnomer to a large degree. In states like Missouri you have to assume almost everyone is armed. It's often easy to pick these people out regardless of what they're wearing, but not always. Regardless of what I'm wearing no one is going to be able to say with any certainty, "That guy's carrying". You could study my t-shirt or my hoodie and make a guess, but by the time you've looked at me long enough to think about that I promise you I've already seen you.

Now SHTF, end of the world, I need to GTFO now and there's a lot of people between me and nowhere, considerations will be different. There will be more than just a compact 9mm to make invisible. But then there will almost certainly be vehicle involved in that scenario too.

Off duty, plain clothes assignments, as a P.I., and private citizen, I have carried a concealed firearm for 55 years. The rules were always simple, keep it concealed and accessible, and bring enough gun. I mostly carried my service pistol on and off duty. Other than other LEO's I don't think anybody but Mrs Greener noticed. The solution is simple: it is a lifestyle, and you dress around the gun, which will limit your wardrobe choices. When I was wearing a suit every day, I found a tailor who would alter by sportcoats and suit jackets to make room for the pistol. Untucked shirts are my go to nowadays for concealment

I automatically assume nearly everyone is armed.
We've had discussions here before about "Tells".

Tactical pants are a Tell. Rigger belts are a Tell. Gun related clothing is a Tell. "Vet Bro" clothing is a Tell.

Assuming everyone is armed is great but some people give you more reason for your assumption than others.

I'm not saying I go all "Condition Orange" because I see somebody in a Grunt Style hoodie. I just take note of it.

I would assume that seeing someone armed ( like you are) wouldn't set you into condition orange.
