Blast from the past

I have always been a huge Led Zeppelin fan, own everything they did on vinyl, 8 track, cassette, and cd including a number of bootlegs on cassette. I was lucky enough to have seen them twice in concert, and had tickets when Bonzo died and they broke up. Then saw Page and Plants Walking into Clarksdale show in Pontiac.

Sat and watched the 15 year anniversary stream of thier reunion concert at 02 arena. Fantastic 2 hour concert. Damn it brought back memories. It's too bad we gotta get old..

Not a Zeppelin fan myself, but they did have some good music.

I was and am a massive Zeppelin fan. My first decent band was basically a Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin cover band.

With the recent popularity of Greta Van Fleet, I found interest in Zepp was re-kindled a tad. Maybe GVF ripped-off Led Zeppelin, but I have thoroughly enjoyed their body of work. I don't get upset with a band until they rip off a song (ala Coldplay -- Joe Satriani). I don't remember where or what it was, but I saw an in-depth history of Jimmy Page on TV...pretty fascinating musical origins.

Page was known to rip some stuff off himself.

I don't care for GVF, but not because I think they sound like Led Zeppelin, I just don't care for the music. And the barefoot bass player looks like an idiot on stage and plays like a mediocre guitar player who was forced to play bass. I think people are stupid and just because the kid's voice sounds a little like Plant when he gets into the upper register everyone started comparing them to LZ. There really is no comparison. JPJ and Page were both extremely talented session musicians long before Page started LZ. And Bonzo on drums? Forget it kid. Musically speaking GVF isn't on par with Green Day much less Led Zeppelin.

Like Zep with all those era bands.

Still a...

I liked the Kashmir era albums.

And you succinctly define the beauty of an art form. What sounds good to one sounds like crap to others...I love bands like Slipknot, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, and Nine Inch Nails. And while Green Day's chops are the utmost in simplicity, their body of music for the most part I admire (less their politics which I hate). Regarding nerds on stage, I can't think of a bigger one than Beck...but I am very fond of some of his music. And you are absolutely correct, Page did "borrow" some things from time to time.

Regarding GVF, I don't think of them as a ground-breaking band like Zepp, but the driving rhythm of Safari Song makes me turn up the volume while driving down the road...

You're right, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Besides their complete lack of talent I also dislike the vast majority of Green Day's music. Dookey was alright I suppose. I like NIN and Slipknot. I also like a lot of Beck's stuff. Although I do hold a grudge against his sometime bassist, Justin Meldal Johnson. I found a bass amp I was searching for for a long time and made a deal with the guy to buy it. Along comes JMJ and the guy renigs on me and sells it to him. I told him about it too. His response was " Oh, like there's no more left, I bought the last one in the world". It took me 2 more years of searching to find one. I had a little collection of Ampeg SVTs and I eventually sold them all off except for this one. 1989 Ampeg SVT II non pro. It is, in my opinion, the best bass amp ever produced. I'm wandering off point again. Sorry.
