Blast from the past

LZ III is my favorite. Then Houses of the Holy.
I love them all but Physical Graffiti is one of my favs. Just love Boogie with Stu its so funky.

Three and Houses of the Holy are in the truck right now I think, they are also favs.

I really like In Through the Out Door it's just interestingly different.

They were like a stacked deck top to bottom. I think JPJ is a brilliant artist who was not quite given his due by some who simply listened to what they played and talked about on radio. The ones who never really sat and listened to everything they did. The other three had such huge personalities.

The 02 concert was good, Jason Bohnham played drums, his dad would been proud, he did good. Watching Page, Plant and Jones look at him looked like proud uncles...

I really blessed to have seen them play live in thier prime.

I have a theory why the reunion tour never took place after that concert. I know Plant would not do it. He gave reasons but I think deep down he knew that his voice could no longer handle those songs for a full tour. A show or two yes but not a tour. I noticed a struggle on a couple songs.

Too bad we gotta get old...

Plant and Page have also had their share of disagreements. I suspect nowadays a lot of those disagreements aren't as serious since what Jimmy was doing ended up making all of them a lot of money. Page has busied himself remastering everything and going through the catalog doing various things, but you know he was all in for any sort of Zeppelin show/tour/album if Plant would have went along.

I wish I had gotten to see them live. My dad wouldn't let me go in 1977. I was 9 years old. He relented by the time I was 11 though and my first concert was Kiss with John Cougar opening on October 2 1979. Cougar was virtually boo'ed off the stage. Kiss was already in their death throws by then too, but it was a great show.

My dad was a musician. A bassist primarily, but he was a blues and old rock and roll guy. He and my mom encouraged me from the get go but they didn't understand my love for Kiss ( I still think everything they did up to Dynasty is awesome) Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. My first record was Elvis Presley. A) side was Hound Dog and B) side was Don't Be Cruel ( that 45 is worth money today, wish I still had it). My first full length LP was Kiss Rock and Roll Over. He bought me a Kay SG copy 4 string bass for my 9th birthday. In fact he bought me all that crap so he could only blame himself. lol

Anyway, I wanted to go see Kiss and Led Zeppelin in 1977 but he said I was too young. Too much refer going around The Checkerdome back then.

A lot of people don't realize that Zeppelin was fully Jimmy Page's band. He started it and he hand picked the other 3 guys, although Bonzo was brought in by Robert Plant. In fact Robert Plant wasn't even allowed to write any lyrics at first. None on the first album anyway. After he proved himself to Jimmy he was eventually given full reign and by LZ III Page and Plant went of to Bron Y Aur to pen the whole album with just Plant and Page with an acoustic guitar. Plant was a full on hippie and drew a lot of inspiration from JRR Tolkien ( evident in songs like Misty Mountain Hop and Ramble On). Page formed LZ after he moved Jeff Beck out of The Yardbirds. He came in as the bass player and ended up taking Beck's spot on guitar. They even toured The US. When Page and Peter Grant started putting together LZ they were calling themselves The New Yardbirds. Someone, I think maybe Steve Winwood or John Mayall, told him they were going to go over like a lead balloon, hence the name Led Zeppelin.

Yes I am a walking encyclopedia of useless knowledge. :)

Yeah at first Jimmy held the reins pretty tight. Then thier working relationship blossomed and they really took off. I have heard different versions of who's idea it was not to release singles like everyone else but it was genius and really set them apart. I think maybe Peter Grant had his fingers in that idea.

Grant was brilliant too, I am not sure he did not invent the whole red snapper/mud shark incident just for salacious news content lol.

You would have liked the Walking into Clarksdake tour too. The opening act, cannot remember her name off hand, was simply great on the electric violin.

I have always been a huge Led Zeppelin fan, own everything they did on vinyl, 8 track, cassette, and cd including a number of bootlegs on cassette. I was lucky enough to have seen them twice in concert, and had tickets when Bonzo died and they broke up. Then saw Page and Plants Walking into Clarksdale show in Pontiac.

Sat and watched the 15 year anniversary stream of thier reunion concert at 02 arena. Fantastic 2 hour concert. Damn it brought back memories. It's too bad we gotta get old..
Man after my own heart I am big big Led Zeppelin have every album they put out Page best guitar player ever and what do you say about a front man like Plant wow

Never was big on heavy rock of the 70’s though LZ singles came about thru one or two the pop music AM stations more so than Sabbath, Motley, etc. probably would say the LZ-IV being my favorite of the bunch with earlier lWhole Lotta Love”.
Early this past summer while working on the radio/speakers my new-to-me old car trying figuring out the wiring mess from prev owners, the very first tune that played on this old when I found speaker wires finally connected was “Living-Loving”. An under powered Pioneer and cheap door speakers sure can bring back the past !
A program feature on the local FM station WDRV is called ‘Get the LED Out’ which haven’t listened to this old rock for decades…had to sit back for a while and they played
Any hoot, yes, we all can use a little way-back machine elixir.

Every weekday at 5:00 PM, K-SHE '95 ( The oldest rock station in the world incidentally) has a feature called "The Daily Dose" as in the daily dose of Led Zeppelin.

You know I have to say one thing most bands that cover the original song don’t sounds as good as the original but let tell you Heart the girl band did a great great job on stairway to heaven even had plant in tears
Ann Wilson also provided background vocals on some Alice In Chains songs and after Layne Staley died, when AIC got together for a one off performance for a benefit for a hurricane relief thing, Ann filled in for the dead Layne Staley.

Also when I was about 14 I saw Heart at the Six Flags Old Glory Amphitheater. I was literally right up against the stage. When Nancy was doing the intro to Crazy On You she saw me staring at her hands so she bent down in front of me and put her guitar in my face so I could see what she was doing. I went home that night and picked it out. Her favorite guitarist by the way, Steve Howe.

That’s super cool 😎

Metallica is another group that did a great great job on bob segers turn the page wow they maybe did it better
Nobody , did it better. Saw Bob Seger perhaps 10 times and no one performed it like the Silver Bullet band. Alto Reed would go to the highest spot in the arena then it would go dark and that crying Sax would start and a spotlight hit him, it was a great intro. Of course that opinion.

LZ reunion show 2002. Sounds like they are tuned down a whole step.

I thought it was a pretty decent show, considering it had been 40+ years since they broke up in 1980. I think the choice not to go thru with a tour came about in that concert. For one thing I think Plant decided his voice was not the same as it was 40 years ago.

Lord knows I am not the same as I was in 1980 either. Not hardly lol. Even with the addition of some new parts lol.

Indeed. Page wanted to tour. Plant said hell no.
I thought the show was great.
