An orthopedic surgeon on shotgun lethality. An informative and entertaining video
Good video. I recommend searching for Dr. Marvin Fackler who was the wound ballistics guru of years past. (I've got a few of his pubs around here somewhere.) He was to go to guy for controversial court cases and forensics. There are only two things that count in wounding: temporary tissue stretch and permanent tissue cavitation. The video does a good job of analyzing these factors. Fackler's work is interesting because he busts some myths about ammo calibers and types and does comparisons of of the different rounds. If I can find them I'll post.

Also slugs.A shotgun with buckshot is, by far, one the best close-range fight stoppers there is.
A centerfire rifle with high (2500+f/s) velocity varmint rounds is right up there, too.
I’ve never really considered slugs a close range—as in, “repel boarders!” —distances option, but, yeah…a 3/4”, 1oz chunk of lead at 1500f/s, give or take, will wreck a goblin’s day. Also slugs.
I'd say bad day inside a hundred yards.Bottom line: shotgun use makes a bad day for a perp close in.

My department carried #4 buck in our 870's based on some studies done by NIJ back in the day. I have seen the results of a close in shot to the 10 ring with it twice and it is a show stopper.#4 buck carry that
That is my choice for inside the house.#4 buck carry that
< 50 yds for me.I'd say bad day inside a hundred yards.
When I slug-hunted deer, Brenneke Rottweils were my go-to.Brenneke ATS slugs for, non-griz/hunting, self-defense for me
I’ve got about 100rds of the now discontinued Federal FC Tactical #1 left…think I’m saving it.< 50 yds for me.
I also like #4, and #1 but the later is hard to find.
I can repeatedly hit an 8" gong at 100 yards with 1600 fps Truball slugs with at least 2 of my favorite shotguns.< 50 yds for me.

But, you're an expert shotgunner compared to me.I can repeatedly hit an 8" gong at 100 yards with 1600 fps Truball slugs with at least 2 of my favorite shotguns.
That's your opinion brother. I never claimed to be an expert at anything other than goofing off. Well, and exterior remodeling. I'll put my work against anyone's there and I spent a good 15 years being the most expensive guy in St. Louis at it.But, you're an expert shotgunner compared to me.
Being a rifle guy I move in that direction beyond 50, which 0-50 is my personal CQB distance.
