Dusted off the Glock today

i been wanting that old fashion razor. i went to get one that was advertised, and the store was out of stock. i have since forgotten about getting one...until now.
The vast majority of my razors are not ones you can buy in a store. At least not in the last 50 years or so.

Go on eBay and find a Gillette 40s “ no date code” Super Speed. It’ll probably run you $15-30. You’ll need to clean and sterilize it. All of which I can walk you through. Then buy a 100 lot of Gillette Platinum safety razor blades for about $30 and you can shave for a couple years without buying anything. Of course a nice Silvertip or 2 band badger brush and a tub or puck of nice soap and maybe an aftershave splash is a real nice way to round out the experience.

yes, that's the one i always wanted. there was one, advertised maybe 2 years ago, the bald guy star, on Pawn Stars advertised it. it was the old fashion type like that one. my dad had one, it might have been his dad's, and then it vanished. my kids when they were very young, got me an Old Spice shaving mug, that i still have. that sob mug, has to be about 50+ years old and dang near indestructible, for all the times i have had it fall to the floor.

The actual vintage old spice mugs bring big money on eBay.

Modern safety razors come in two categories. One, cheap and don’t perform anywhere near as well as actual Vintage Gillettes and two, shockingly expensive and perform as good or in some cases better than vintage Gillettes.

My opinion is don’t waste your money on a $30 modern production safety razor. Either buy an actual vintage razor for the same money or less or else buck up and drop a couple hundred on a Timeless .95 or a Razorock Wunderbar

I have all of those. I have probably 35 vintage Gillettes from Fat Boys, Slims, Red Tips, News, olds and everything in between. Blade gap determines aggressiveness. The more aggressive the gap is the more efficient the shave will be. Also the more you will be punished with blood letting if you don’t get your angle and pressure right. I suggest milder razors, such as the NDC 40s Super Speed for people who don’t know how to shave with a safety razor. It’s much more forgiving of bad technique and still gives a nice shave. I prefer very aggressive razors. 1956 Red Tip Super Speed, 1931 New, Timeless .95, Wunderbar. These are a few of my favorites.

Blades matter too. Gillette Platinums are a good mix of sharp and smooth. I prefer Feather Hi- Stainless which are made in Japan and probably the sharpest blades available. Consequently they are the least forgiving and will make you pay for mistakes. They are however extremely efficient and will mow down 5 days growth very quickly and easily.

It's definitely hard to beat the G17 for a home defense pistol, I actually have the G45 as my coffee table gun and it fills that roll very well. The old lady shoots it very well and it's the pistol she's most comfortable with, so it's perfect in that regard.
