Echelon with WML and red dot optic and failures with Urban Carry Holsters

I recently ordered iwb and owb holsters for my Echelon 5.28 threaded barrel with wml and red dot optic. With the Echelon inserted properly in the holster there is no room for an optic. See the photo which shows NO cutout for the dot and you can see the optic plate cover has holster leather over the top. 20240415_163159.jpg

The young man at Urban Carry Holsters tells me it is the fault of the weapon as the optic sits ahead of the rear sites. Does he expect it behind the sites hanging in mid air.

It is Urban Carry Holsters Hyperion size 309. Urban Carry CS states 309 is for other guns as well. Which other optic ready pistol would fit in this 309 Urban Carry OWB. The CS kid seems to be lacking and doesn’t want to take the time and look at the holster picture and see that the holster has no cutout for the dot.

Attached as well is my Urban Carry iwb that the optic cutout is obvious.

Am I wrong in thinking the Urban Carry OWB holster they sold me is actually a non optic holster?

Looking at your pics it is very likely that any pistol with an optic would push up against the sides of this holster at the very least. That being said if you are going to order a holster for a pistol with an optic you need to confirm that it will indeed take one. Even the make of optic can sometimes cause a problem. I have a couple of kydex “optic ready” holsters that I’ve had to modify because they obstructed the optic I was using. And yes, the optic wouldn’t go anywhere but in front of the rear sights. He may be suggesting that an optic that sits over the dovetail would have enough clearance - which is lame if that is the case.

I have a G32 that I had Battlewerx remove the rear dovetail and place optic cut over it. The Holosun SCS-MOS on that gun almost starts at very rear of slide. It would NOT fit in that holster. Send it back.

Here is G32 with optic cut over dovetail and in a Kusiak Old Fashioned properly cut for normal optic with dovetail sight.

The 309 is the holster I bought for my old XDM. So I suspect you're right. But I haven't tried it with the Elite. I will when I get home. The 309 also fits the M&P 9.

Greetings 👋

I'm still waiting with my new OWB holster that wont take my weapon because no optic cut was made on my Urban Carry Hyperion #309 that they sold me to carry my Springfield Echelon with the CTL wml and red dot optic. Looking at my photos you can see what the issue is.
Let's compare to my Urban Carry IWB bought to carry the same weapon. Fits perfectly. Anyone who isn't legally blind can look and see the issue.

The nice Urban Carry CS folks must think I'm a dummy and blamed the Echelon's optic cut, stating is at the wrong location on the slide. Seems to me most manufacturers place the optic at the same location. I also tried my Taurus with the optic. Same holster Same problem. Holster was made for no optic.

I'm starting to get impatient. They set me up to talk to someone higher up the chain. A couple weeks later he got back with me. Tells me that they don't have a model for my Echelon. However he said they are working on a solution. I've heard nothing all this time.

Last week I send another email asking of their progress. Their response is I must not be breaking it in properly.
The email I just received:

    Hello ,

We actually get this reaction occasionally from first-time owners of the Urban Carry Holster, especially when they just receive the Urban Carry due to its truly unique characteristics, but we are sorry to hear that the holster is not working out as you anticipated.

Breaking in the holster will not prevent you from being able to return it - so PLEASE, WE ENCOURAGE YOU to really break in the leather for the best fit, comfort, and draw possible. It may take several days - not just an afternoon of looking at it.

Please be aware that the high-quality leather we use for our holsters does require a wee bit of a break-in period. Most customers tell us that after 2-3 days the holster is quite comfortable. Typical break-in periods are 3-5 days of continual use; however, it can take 1-2 weeks for the leather to fully expand and form around the firearm. Once the leather begins to form it will also make for a better, more comfortable fit, protrude (print) considerably less, and provide a smoother draw. For a prime example, some of our clients took 2 weeks to fully break it in with occasional use, and now they wear it continuously anywhere from 12 to 18 hours a day. The mere act of wearing the holster around (even without the firearm) will help the holster to break-in due to your own natural movement and heat. Many customers opt to leave their firearm holstered overnight for several nights to allow the leather to stretch and form on its own; others use a leather conditioner and a good massage to lessen the break-in period.""

  • Wow. Leather conditioner and a nice massage. WTH.

This shows no issues with my other Hyperion fitting the Hellcat Pro perfectly with room to mount that dot.

Leather conditioner and a good massage???

This is a frustrating deal. I ordered 4 holsters and 3 are at least usable.

I'm amazed at the CS which started out wonderful. I'm only persisting on this deal because I do like their holsters.

Solution?

Per Urban Carry staff:

""As per our sizing engineer, the only option you could try is taking out that front rubber grommet. Since it is the OWB it would still have the back rubber grommet like the IWB has. You can see how the fit is when its out"".

CS:
Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you. I will need to escalate your issue so that someone can take a closer look at what's going on right away.Let me get back to you once I received an update.
