Emissary 1911 - Rear Slide Overhang

Update: So customer service got back to me, and said they'll only fix it if there's an issue with function. I told them that even if it functions now, if there is a fitment issue, it may exhibit issues long term. Their reply to that was the same, if it doesn't function properly they'll fix it. Even if it is just a blemish though, it's a pretty serious one for a pistol I paid $1399 for, which isn't cheap by any means.

My last three 1911's have been Dan Wesson, and they were flawless. So guess I'll just stick with them from now on. Funny thing is, I bought a Long Beach Operator from SA a few years back, and the slide didn't sit correctly on the frame, and I had to send it in, and they did fix that one. So either I'm extremely unlucky with SA 1911's, or they need to expand their quality control.
ship it back to them. just tell them it does not function. let them figure it out.

all my Springers are as flawless as a massed produced gun can be.

I don’t know looking at the pictures I would send it back to them it doesn’t look right
Yup, that's what I said too. I even sent them the exact same pictures expressing my concerns I posted above. This was the response from customer service:

Is it functioning properly? We would not be concerned about it unless you have function issues.

Thank you!

send it back.

call them maybe from a different phone, so they cannot use caller ID to know it is you again.

tell the person it is not functioning correctly, maybe won't go into battery?

then get the RMA number, and ship it.

include the pics of the slide at that time.

if anything else, if they refuse you, and i'm finding this hard to believe, take it to a gunsmith, document what was done, even just a diagnostic charge, and send them the bill.

if a repair is needed, have the gunsmith document that, and then ship the gun to them with his documentation.

but the question looms, "did you even take it apart to check for any reason it's like that"?

you are aware it's a bull barrel, and as such, needs a tool to remove the RSA from the slide?

you don't mention if you have any other bull barrel 1911's.

your Dan Wessons don't have them.

one would hope and think, that a careful examination of a new weapon was done, before the purchase.

as used should be checked over more so.

he makes no mention if he even took it apart to examine for any potential reason for this.
Firearm was purchased online. When going to pick up the transfer, the box wasn't put in front of me until after I had completed my paperwork. I opened the box and examined that everything was there, and that the pistol didn't have any major issues. It had a chamber flag in it, which kept me from seeing the overhang. With a brand new $1300+ pistol though, I didn't really think a deep dive was needed on the inspection. That's what quality control is for! Guess I learned my lesson there! lol...

And yes, I took the pistol down, cleaned it and reassembled. The only apparent issue is there's either too much material still on the slide, or too much was taken off the frame. Or maybe a little of both. The ball-cut on the slide lines up perfectly with the front of the frame, so all good up there. It's only the rear that is off.

strange, i have bought guns online, (my Colt Python, as well as 2 1911's comes to mind) and had them shipped to a LGS. i was able to open the box and check it all out, before i signed any paperwork.

i have 2 Dan Wessons, a Pointman PM 45 and a Heritage, i got at another LGS, i checked each one out (bought the same day), before i decided to buy them. at the prices i paid for those, you'd better believe i checked them first.

same with my lower priced, Tisas 1911, under $470. it got the same looksie as the Dan Wesson's.

even my Korth Mongoose, at $5999.99...i checked that baby out.

i assume nothing.

i think that was your downfall..."assuming"....

you "assumed" perfection at the cost, and are blaming the manufacturer.

further, did you buy from a bonafide dealer, or some schmuck?

i have bought guns via Gunbroker, thru real gun dealers, with great ratings. (always a very good purchase thru Gunbroker for me)

call them for an RMA, talk to a different person, using a different phone like i said, to cover up the caller ID they have on you now.

good luck, if you pursue this, you will get S/A to make any needed repair(s)

So I’ve been following this thread and haven’t seen it mentioned so I have one question, have you shot the gun? If I missed that I apologize but if you have put rounds down range does it shoot?
Was there any issues? I finally took a look at my Springfield 1911 RO 45ACP and the right side of the slide is flush with the frame but the left side of the slide (slightly) and I mean slightly overhangs on the frame and the 1911 shoots flawlessly. My take is the frame was polished a little to much in that area and possibly the slide not enough. Now I understand my RO did not come close to the cost of your 1911.
So? Does the gun shoot?

Here’s a pic of my (ahem) “low end” Tisas Carry 1911 in .45 ….

I would expect SA to at least meet their standards in fit, finish & appearance…. Wouldn’t you ?!?

I’m thinking take the high road.
Send it back, without any shenanigans, and a polite letter explaining your looking at it at the LGS with chamber block in it (not being offered the opp to see it before the transaction, if that’s the case) and see what happens.

Not sure what unkowledagle is... But I have 2 Kimber's and a Ruger as well that are completely fine. Which is why I referenced LOWER price point in my comment, and not comparable price. I have seen many bottom tier Kimber's that have a lot of blemishes, and Ruger is fairly well known for their looser tolerances. Not sure why you're bringing up "HIGHER" priced DW's in your comment though? You're kind of all over the place bud...

Thanks to the other gents that responded, I already dropped a line to SA's customer service!
Kimber is high end to me...guess it all just depends on your $$ priorities. Is DW ghetto compared to Nighthawk.. ? I will probably never have a safe full of Nighthawks either. Just for the record.. my Rapide 10mm is a 100% reliable/ accurate /work of art. My SR1911 is also a very nice gun. And im currently dreaming of owning a Ronin in 45. until my LGS gets one in. So i guess you could say i'm happy to be slumming it in "low end".. 1911s.. :)

you will not be disappointed in the Ronin.

they just are not always available, at least not at my LGS. they only had 2 come in, and i snactched one up right away.

Just looked it up... The Emissary is "low end" compared to what my Kimber cost.. So welcome to the low end Club...:). But all seriousness... That is a cool gun, and im sure SA will make it right..

Thats very disappointing ... Guess i should have read the whole thread before i started running my pie hole... Hopefully thats just 1 person at SA that is a knucklehead. But see how that 1 persons response (posted on gun forums..especially their own ) can cost them 10x what it would to show how good their customer service is..and fix your gun without any hassle. Worse than a missed opportunity for them. They would be way ahead if they kept her away from the CS dept..and had her clean bathrooms or something...
