Everything But The Winch

So while working on the winch and lights I was forced due to my own poor driving skills, 🙄😵‍💫🤦‍♂️ to replace the bump step (rear bumper protector)

The one I had on the truck for about 4 years looked something like this.

It was functional and stylish however after backing into a concrete pole, the ones used to keep people from driving onto sidewalks, it didn’t look like that anymore. Basically I crushed it, now in all fairness when I removed it to put it in its final resting place “the dumpster” I found out that water had rusted out the bottom of the bump step rendering it useless.

Of course I don’t do anything half way so I added something to its replacement, keep in mind everything I’m doing now is to setup the truck for 5th wheel camper towing so I won’t need the hitch now anyway so it’s locked on with a locking hitch pin and now it’s going to bright!!!

New bump step with twin pod lighting for backup help, it will not be tied into the trucks reverse lights so I’ll need run power. A project left for when I have nothing to do. 😂😂😂😂😂

Keystone, when I see the word "winch" in the title it always makes me think of a long, lost maidan from my youth. She was a pretty girl. We were in some of the same classes, and she had a part-time job working in a massage parlor. We had a great relationship for a long time, but eventually I had to give her up.

I believe you’ve mistaken the word Winch with Wench however I pass no judgment on your choices with your bedfellows. 😵‍💫🙄🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Honestly not in the least.
🙄😵‍💫🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
No disrespect.
Since you really want to know: She started rubbing me the wrong way!

Ok so I feel kind of stupid but the (2) 4X4 inch steel plates I ordered from Amazon ended up being stainless steel which has little to no magnetic properties to use for mounting my mag base antennas so I’ve ordered a couple aluminum plates to mount on the Thule bar and attach the antennas with super strong double sided tape.

Live and learn.

Those antennas have to have a ground, the magnet is the ground, the magnet is not just a way to attach to your vehicle, if not, the SWR will climb and possibly burnt out you finals in the radio

The Thule bar I’ll be mounting the antennas to also has an LED light, I use 12/3 rubber coated wire to power my lights which only uses two of the 3 wires, I’ll use the 3rd wire to ground the antennas. Thanks for the heads up.

The one mag mount antenna I have has a vinyl film covering over the magnet, my guess is to avoid scratching the paint on a steel bodied vehicle.
How exactly would that magnet ground??

The magnet is the ground, the vinyl is to protect the paint, but the magnet must be on steel for it to ground properly or like I said the SWR will climb and possibly burn out your finals when you transmit, trust me, I have been into radios for over 30 years, CB then amateur, and I am not feeding you a BS line.

I didn’t say you were!!!

I’m learning and want to do it right.

So….
If I put a wire between the magnet and double sided tape (unshielded wire)
I’ll use to mount it to the Thule bar and the other end of the wire to a ground point on the truck would that be a sufficient ground?

I don’t think that will work, magnet needs to be on steel, plus you need to have the antenna on something so when you transmit it will reflect the signal, like on a trunk lid, roof and such. Most mag mount antennas transmit from the base of it, if you want to mount like you were originally stated, you need to forget the mag mount and get a top feed antenna with the proper type base.
