First Look: The New Springfield Armory TRP Series

If you’re paying attention, the guys out there carrying 1911/2011’s for serious use are now almost exclusively doing so in 9mm for obvious reasons. Same people saying this is a fad are the same people who said red dots on pistols were a fad a few years ago.
Meh. They'll fade from memory in a few years. Just like those new fangled Glocks and other tupperware. I'LL just stick with my .45 and Model T.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Is that where TRP’s are now?

Nope.

Nope, nope, nope.

I will NOT pay that for a 1911 with MIM parts.

Was super interested until I saw the $2k MSRP. That's a hard pass. For a few hundred more you can get into Dan Wesson or Wilson Combat territory. And in that price range there are alot of other things higher on the list currently.

Absolutely not would I desire to arm the F.B.I. with the Springfield Armory TRP. Let them use $600 Glocks or pay for it out of their own pockets since the Glock is used by virtually every other law enforcement agency in country. Why create a reason for wasting taxpayer money?

In that reasoning, I guess you are against the FBI HRT teams being issued a Springfield Professional? The TRP is the cheaper version of the Professional.

If I were a hostage, I wouuld want the most highly trained marksmen with the most accurate and dependable rifles and 1911 45acp pistols to be on the team that is coming to rescue me. But then, I am fussy that way.

It's only $5.50 per day for one year....

That's actually a strong argument. I definitely burn more than $5.50 a day on random BS I don't really need to. Why not save it up for a shiny new blaster instead of burning it on Monster or a quick meal at Wawa?

I'm diggin the new TRP models. I was considering a railed upgrade for my olde Springfield Loaded. I think one of these would fit the bill, though I admit I'm not thrilled about the price point. At the same time, looking around other manufacturers with pistol in this range, I'm not seeing much that would push me in their direction as opposed to getting a TRP. I'm not exactly concerned about MIM parts. To date I haven't broken or worn out an MIM anything and that isn't for lack of trying on my part.

Beautiful looking pistol. The price is more than what most common folk can afford or justify for a pistol. The Ronin is a nice-looking pistol and under a grand. Probably get something slightly used for a little less.

Don’t care.

If you’re gonna charge $2k for a 1911, put tool-steel forged parts in it.
If one wants all steel parts it’s $3,500 or so and Called the Professional!

I get the resistance to MIM parts however todays MIMs are not the same as they were in the late 1980’s and 90’s. 9mm performance Isn’t the only thing that has improved.

Like people claiming K frames just got shot to death with 357 mag. Or the Beretta M9 had slides flying if (which no more than 10 did out of an initial batch is 300,000 guns but to hear people talk)

Most mortal shooters outside Jerry Miculik aren’t going to shoot a MIM part gun of tid aye build quality to death before normal replacement intervals

Well the Beretta M9 thing isn't true. Unless I am an anomaly since I know two people who have experienced it. One while he was in Iraq during Desert Storm. The odds of me knowing 2 of the 9 are pretty slim.

My M9 reference was not mistreated 20-30 year old Military issue guns but brand new wjem the Military adopted them. During the late 1980’s there were 6-10 slide separations (all within Navy service tests training etc) there were “reports” of plus P SMG ammo being blamed etc. in the USAF we went through a phase we had to document rounds and they sent the slides back at 1,000 rounds for factory inspections that didn’t last long as Betetta them came out with the FS version that the frame had a part that kept the slide from separating rearward from the frame.

You couldn’t have a conversation without someone claiming they witnessed one of the original slide separations which with 6-10 incidents unless they happened with a football stadium watching not buying it (and these were AF and Army guys which it was Navy stuff)

There were much more issues with M9 locking blocks for a short time but again Betetga addressed that and with all the military’s training guns I saw as CATM never had observed that as did my civilian agency that ran Beretta 92D Vertec for about 18 years

It’s funny before the internet the urban rumors ran with the Beretta Slides separating or “gang bangers pulling slides off which never happens but people ran wit it.

No different today than MIM parts are bad basing that on what they were in the early 80’s of the latest fear in LE and prison stuaf is Officers are dieing from just touching a letter in fentanyl which is BS (how did all the people touching that stuff not have an effect before it got there) there is always a pre existing health issue (overweight, hypertension etc) but people like to run with stories!
