Honda and Nissan consider merging into one company

Of course I don’t know for certain however it’s doubtful the merger will be approved.
That being said if you watch the news Honda has been struggling with both low sales as well as serious recalls.
When I was married we bought a Nissan Van, it was an on demand 4 wheel drive powertrain and a great dependable vehicle, it was totaled in an accident when a drunk ran a stop sign.
Never found a decent vehicle to replace it.
Sadly Nissan has been in decline in regards to quality vehicles for years.
After my divorce I dated a lady who loved Honda’s, we went together to look at some and she picked the HRV, when I lifted the hood I couldn’t believe how small the engine was which was connected to a 4 wheel drive power train.
We are no longer dating but we talk occasionally and she told me the engine failed after 3 years, Honda refused to warranty it. She now drives a Ford Explorer and loves it.

We didn't want SUVs until CAFE standards hit the station wagons hard. In the day, SUVs were classed as trucks and evaded CAFE. Ultimately, you're correct, we always wanted station wagons but thanks to the feds they went the way of the do-do. Hence, SUVs took their place.
It WAS simpler for awhile. The EPA cut-off was gvwr based ( for instance, the F100 became the F150 to put it out of the catalytic-converter territory of the F100 ). Back then, SUVs were truck-based.

Now, crossover "SUV"s are 'cars' and subject to CAFE ratings. By sales volume, they carry the brunt of Fleet average EPA requirements and are sized and engineered accordingly.

Now they're all scrambling to add a third row of seats to make an SUV a 7-passenger.

They could lift a minivan two-inches for ground-clearance and call it an SUV and people would stand in line to buy it.

I owned and rode Honda motorcycles for close to 40 years, 5 different models.
Nothing but a great experience in all.
My last two Honda cars were unbelievable nightmarish.

The Accord was a pre-Lemon car. My CRX replacement engine needed to be replaced by 175,000 miles. By then the gearbox, fuel pump, starter, alternador had been replaced, the sunroof needed to helped to close, the plastic fenders were cracked- this is a short list.

Car was parked in a garage, spent 95% of its time at 3000rpm and had 3000-mile oil-changes.

And, yeah, I enjoyed it.

This pertains to all the auto manufacturing companies.
Get off your dead a$$es and make Quality things people want, why do foreign companies offer better warranties???
Ever since the late 70's no matter the company all cars look the same with very little change, such as Impala's, Taurus' Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks.
These companies want to add features to dumb down drivers with automatic braking, lane change warning and God forbid letting them drive Autonomously adding to ridiculous price increases.
I have had a company truck all my career and since I'm retired, I would like one, but not at $75,000.
Wake up American companies and build what we want and make it affordable, so I don't have to rely totally on foreign vehicles.
Enough said time for coffee...
Right now is the time to buy a pickup. Supply is good, demand is low. You can probably look at a $20,000 discount before you walk in the door

No, not a good idea. Nissan has had lots of issues and should go away. Could you imagine what ugly thing will come out of this marriage! Honda not much better anymore, they have had "issues" recently with fuel leaks and bad 1.5 turbo engines having oil dilution issues. That was one of the reasons I sold my CRV EXL. Even Toyota is having issues with engines. I say if they can't stand on their own 2 feet they need to shut down. Nothing lasts forever especially when companies start cost cutting. Also nothing is made with quality anymore. It's like they don't want them to last. This is why I drive a Buick.

Nissan isn’t any worse than any other Asian automobile. All of them, just like US automakers, are crammed full of Chinese made parts.

People are so stupid. My next vehicle is gonna be something like a ‘72 Chevy truck with a 350. Something goes wrong with it, I can whip out a socket set and fix it.

this is very true, like the recent Toyota recall on replacing engines due to poor cleaning methods when they were machined and built....

and i LOVE my toyota's, been a fan now since 2010, and owned 4 thus far.

its how any company handles each and every situation as it arises.

however, if a company is failing, and a merger is required to stay afloat, then i say shut down, and sell out completely, as to not transfer the product line to your savior bailing out your ass.

this is why i was always against a government bail out of any american car maker.

millions of not billions dumped into a bailout, and the failures continued.

NOT defending auto co. but, much of this is mandated by some bureaucrat who justifies his job by making rules. Plus automatic braking isn't such a bad idea. Since people won't HANG UP AND DRIVE. ;) 🤬How I would like to have my 2x4 Isuzu again. I just want a simple truck to do truck stuff.

My wife is on her 4th Avalon. The new models have gotten progressively shittier.
Her 2019 isn’t nearly as nice as my 2005 Lexus 330.
