Lucas Oil Extreme Duty Bore Solvent Review

Thought I would share my results with this product. Most regulars here know I mostly use Lucas Oil Extreme Duty CLP and there Extreme Duty Gun Oil. Recently I tried there bore solvent to remove some stubborn copper fouling. So I tried this on my S&W SD40 VE, well it’s not Hoppes, but it did a good job on removing most of the copper, first I soaked the barrel for about 15 minutes.
Then used a bore brush several times, then soaked the barrel again for another 15 minutes. This did a pretty decent job on the fouling. The smell isn’t bad either, grape scent. Also, after using this you don’t have to coat the barrel with oil or CLP, it leaves a coating for protection, unless you are doing a long term storage, then you can coat the barrel like it states on the directions. Just my experience with trying this.

Lucas oil products is great stuff, I haven’t used the Bore Solvent although I haven’t shot enough to end up with extreme fouling. Their oil products, supreme quality.

I have had good luck with their solvent... Love the gun oil, and the spray cleaner seems to work well too (see pic) - anybody tried that?

Can't seem to find any of the bore cleaner/solvent locally anymore. It's as if Sportsman Warehouse and Cabela's has stopped carrying it or can't restock it. Shipping through Amazon or WalMart is available, but I ALWAYS get leaking packages from them with liquids. Can't seem to find any news about it discontinued. I really liked the product, and am pretty much a brand fan, but I hate unavailability (see Shooters Lube for example). Guess Hoppes has the availability market sinched.

I use it on stainless guide rods and stainless barrels after bore brush and clp as a "rinse" before final lube.
Also great for cleaning nasty gun cleaning brushes.

I just sent an email to Lucas Oil asking why I can't find this locally anymore, and that it's been months (here in Colorado). I really like their products and hate switching once you find a great one.

Thanks, and I know I can find it at numerous places online. However, it seems that 95% of the time I order online a liquid it's delivered leaking, so I just don't try anymore.

i never had any issues with liquids shipped via MidwayUSA, or Brownells.....or Kittery Trading Post (out of Maine), or Amazon

Not I, and Amazon has been the worst. Lucky to get 1/2 the product still in the bottle.

I just received a batch of cleaning products today shipped UPS from Midway. Included in that batch was a 16oz Hoppe's 9 bore solvent. Arrived sealed and dry (good thing, cause I had 6-7 other doo-dads in the box).

Thanks for the reply. I’ll have to reconsider with Midway. I’m still waiting on a suppressor for my Hellion but once I get it (damn ATF) I’ll need a quantity for soaking. Walmart was showing a great deal on multiple quart sized, but I can’t justify buying a case even at the price right now. Stay safe.

i can use a new doo-dad or 2, or 3, but no more than 4......

If you really must know, new Tipton .177 cleaning rod, rod adapter, new jag set, nylon cleaning brushes (don't use brass anymore)...just boring stuff (pun intended).
