My choice in a mimitary rifke design, The M1 Carbine

Should have bought a bunch of these back in the 80's when they were sold at Woolworth's Dept stores for cheap.
They used to sell off surplus cheap in the golden age, we can only be envious . My dad said after the war, assume WWII, could have been Korea i suppose, they had barrels of surplus rifles cheap, mostly Lee Enfields, 1903s and anything German and Italian, in Penny's, hardware stores, Sears, just about everywhere I guess.

My mother-in-law gave this to me after my father-in-law passed away earlier this year from agent orange exposure. He was a Vietnam combat veteran, but as a kid he worshipped WWII and Korean war veterans. So, he got this for plinking fun. It is well worn, and I don't plan to shoot it anymore. I'm going to try to clean it up some more and get some period era accessories for it and put it under glass for display. Kind of as a tribute to my late father-in law.

I have a Standard Products Carbine that cracked the gas cylinder. For those unfamiliar with the little M1, the gas chamber is forged into the barrel. So I replaced the barrel with a 1970s U.S. surplus part. Since the gun was no longer original, I figured what the Hell, and brought it into the 21st century. 😁
DON'T SHOOT! I have the parts and can change it back to original any time. (y)
BTW: my other carbine is an Inland and its just like Uncle Sam issued them. ;)

Looks like a perfect lil personal protection carbine to me.
